Has anyone made a bootable WCG agent just yet? Something that runs on linux and allows a system to run WCG dedicated without having to image it?

Hello soGGy,
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=boinc#175 lists some startup scripts for Linux. The first starts BOINC when you log in. The others start BOINC when you boot up. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/autostart_dennett.txt has a boot up script for BOINC 4.23 that you can adapt. Lawrence |

lawrencehardin, I get the impression soGGy is looking for a bootable Linux CD with WCG preconfigured.
This has the benefit of a zero-install, but has a couple of drawbacks: no permanent storage (causing lost work units), difficult to manage (some details would be hard coded on the CD, like member name). It would create a lot of device manager records, one per boot most likely. In short, while there may be the occasional good reason for doing this, normally you would have to leave the computer booted for so long to make it worthwhile that you might as well just install it properly. For those rare occasions when it makes sense, you will have to make your own, because of the hard coded details like your account key. I haven't heard of anyone successfully creating such a boot CD. |
