Processing power for HPF2

I see we are about to embark on the HPF2 project. I hope my bank of modestly equipped Pentium III computers will be capable of contributing some useful computing time. They may be small and they may be slow, but they have provided 22 years of input to the HPF1 project.

Re: Processing power for HPF2

It should be fine. We don't have the minimum requirements yet, but Pentium IIIs are hardly antiquated. Slower computers simply take a little longer on each work unit.

The thing to watch will be the memory requirements. Again, this is nothing to worry about. Computers lacking memory will simply be assigned to projects with lower memory requirements, like HPF1.

Re: Processing power for HPF2

It was mainly the memory requirement I had in mind; some of mine have only 128MB or a little more. Of course, I'm happy for them to be busy on HPF1 but I hope I don't have to scrap them once that project finishes.

Re: Processing power for HPF2

Currently, there are other projects in the pipeline behind HPF2. So don't be too hasty in scraping older machines. wink
