sad Processor Performance

I have checked the process performance when it is running alone on my computer and I get 25% that is consumed by the process and 75% consumed by the idle process.

This is really a low figure. I have a P4 955EX Intel processor running at 3.7 Ghz with 2 GB low latency DDR2 ram.
My processor is double core and with Hyperthreading. This means I have 4 parallel threads 2 physical and two virtual for each physical.

The Fight Aids @ Home process uses only 1/4 available computing power. This is really disappointing.

Re: Processor Performance

If you have enough memory, you can migrate to BOINC, which supports multicore and SMP setups. However, you would be wise to limit it to 2 processors (so that your task manager reports 50% usage). This is because hyperthreading does not provide two equal CPUs. Task manager is lying to you. The explanation gets very technical, but we have discussed this a few times before, and the WCG techs have confirmed that hyperthreading provides no useful performance increase.

So, migrate to BOINC, and limit it to 2 processors.

If you want the full explanation, try this post: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=484#2772

Re: Processor Performance

Hello Fabio Manzini,
Here is a page of instructions about changing from the UD client to the BOINC client: http://www.unofficialworldcommunitygrid.com/toboinc.html

The default installation says: when running on multi-processor systems, run at most 4 threads. Didactylos is giving good advice. You should change that to at most 2 threads on your system.
