Freaking AutoCAD!

And other programs that steal CPU....!

Seriously, I use AutoCAD all the time and frequently it will do some background processing that totally wipes out WCG - even when it is only open somewhere in the background.

I only really noticed it because of that strange unresponsiveness that I remember from the bad old days of SETI.

So, anyone else want to warn of impolite software? Virus scanners are notoriously impolite, and there have been reported issues with Norton (no surprise, Norton shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a computer unless you want to destroy it utterly).

Re: Freaking AutoCAD!

Hmmm..... Running AutoCAD 2005 and 2006 (Building Systems) along with Boinc on XP Pro with a 2G 3.2 GHz HT P4 and all is good. UD, on the other hand, gave me all kinds of problems! sad
McAfee Virusscan enterprise 8.0 had been very well behaved as long as buffer overflow protection is disabled.

Re: Freaking AutoCAD!

AutoCad 2005 is fine here with a Intel 805 Dualie and 2 gigs of DDR667 ram. It does tend to hog CPU usage at times.

Re: Freaking AutoCAD!

Dragon Naturally Speaking is a voice recognition product for word processors. It hogs the computer and introduces time delays that make it hard for grid processing to do anything.
