And a happy late vernal equinox holiday to all you non christians. kinda-sorta. Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox. Good Friday is a couple of days before that. Eastern and Western calculations are also a bit different, not to mention the Gregorian/Julian calendar shift.

Hence the "late". Actually, I think the equinox -> Easter gap is longer than average this year. Equinox is around 21 March.

Lessee. I saw something about the earliest and latest dates of Easter....
----------------------------------------In the Western Church, Easter has not fallen on the earliest of the 35 possible dates, March 22, since 1818, and will not do so again until 2285. It will, however, fall on March 23, just one day after its earliest possible date in 2008. Easter last fell on the latest possible date, April 25 in 1943, and will next fall on that date in 2038. However, it will fall on April 24, just one day before this latest possible date in 2011.

So, later than average, but we're nowhere near the limit. It makes sense that the earliest date is a lot harder to hit than the latest date. I'm not up to working out the probability tonight, though.

It's been done. Probability of most Easter dates is flat at about 3.3%, with a little peak of about 3.9% on April 29 just before the probability of the later dates falls off. The early dates also drop at about the same rate. The first few days looks about like the last few days in reverse but the early dates are a bit smaller. There's a nice bar graph here about 2/3 of the way down on this computation page:
