Problems setting up on Linux (SuSE 10.0)

I get the following errors when I try to run the BOINC manager under SuSE Linux 10.0.

I am relatively new to Linux, but I know this should be possible.
Also everytime I try to connect to the website from within the run_manager, it launches the text browser in sh instead of Firefox. Firefox is set as my default browser throughout the rest of the system. Can anyone help me?

kseise@blackbox:~/BOINC> ./run_manager

Re: Problems setting up on Linux (SuSE 10.0)

You seem to have a couple of problems there.

The font warnings I think you can ignore. None of them are required fonts. What locale are you set to? That may be the problem.

The connection error is the same error you will get if boinc isn't running when you launch the manager. Is boinc running? You will get the same error for a few other reasons, too.

As for the browser thing, as far as I can tell the path to your preferred browser should be stored in the BROWSER environment variable.

Re: Problems setting up on Linux (SuSE 10.0)

It seems the client was not running. Thanks for that.

On the locale issue, I don't know where to set it. I also don't know how to change the BROWSER variable. I poked around, but I can't seem to find where to put it. Any help would be really appreciated.

Some rather confused advice here:
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=661

The bottom line is, if there isn't a nice fancy GUI to set it for you, you must add it to one of the startup scripts yourself.

I have the client running smoothly now.

I followed the tutorial and edited (as root) /etc/profile I included the line
BROWSER="/usr/bin/firefox"

The program still launches a text browser by default. Any more suggestions?
