Windows Agent not saving username and password

Our non-profit recently joined the wcd. We had to install the world community grid agent on each machine in our office (about 85)manually using the same Windows administrator login. For the agent, we plugged in the same username and password for each machine. For most of the machines, this worked fine. However, about 20 require the user who logs in, not an administrator, to re-enter the username and password. Once that is done the agent runs fine.

I haven't found a common thread amongst the machines or the users that won't save the username and password. None of our users are administrators, which is how we'd like to keep it.

Any ideas?

Re: Windows Agent not saving username and password

An odd one. I don't think I've seen this problem before. A few possibilities involve user error: either the password was mistyped the first time, or the registration step was overlooked. It's not incredibly likely, though.

Apart from that, the only possibility I can think of is a permissions issue, where the client can't access the cached credentials. But that's not particularly convincing, either.

For future reference, the BOINC client can be installed automatically using Group Policy, without requiring manual installation or manual username/password entry. Also, it can run as a service so your users won't even see the agent running. 85 computers is probably just enough to make the extra effort required to set it up worth while.
