Hey guys, I don't want to pester you or anything, but I'm applying for a scholarship and the way they issue it is by you getting friends to vote on you because they think you're a kind person. I figured since my team knew the contribution I was giving to WCG you could help me out and toss me a few votes. I'd really appreciate it. You're allowed to vote once a day, so by all means, keep coming back. http://www.helpastudent.com/alainbryden?602 thanks team Hi GuysI have a little favour to ask you please One of our Team Mates needs a little help getting his scholarship All it requires of you is to click on the link below and click "YES" to give him your support It couldn't be easier There is 20 days left and you can return each day and vote again if you can remember Thanks Guys, I know I can count on your supportPlease click here to: Help a Student and Vote for Alain Bryden |

That's going to be one smaaaaaaaaaaaall scholarship. I assume you all read the site before clicking?
I don't think a scholarship should be a popularity contest. It's kind of inherent in the name: scholar. There should be some sort of merit involved. Worst, there seem to be some serious doubts about how they're going to distribute the money. Clearly someone really didn't think it through :-( |

Rose-tinted spectacles are all very nice, but you have to be a little cynical sometimes. Scams abound on the Internet, and while this one probably isn't a scam, it is unlikely to deliver what it says on the tin.

I have no objection with you being cynical about something that is liable to affect you directly But I find it a bit mean spirited, when it is at someone elses expense[Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 10, 2006 9:16:04 PM] |

You have an objection? No quantity of emoticons will change the truth, Graham.
And, as I said earlier: I don't think a scholarship should be a popularity contest. Of course, Alain Bryden is a member of WCG, so he's clearly slightly more deserving than most (I voted for him). But that doesn't change the futility of the project, and the suspiciously vague rules. |

Sorry, I am not impressed (and thats my OPINION).
----------------------------------------The dea is dubious - education is a right for all who have the ability, not a popularity contest / beauty pageant. Education is the biggest investment that a society can make - with the greatest returns. Edication should be free for all who have tha ability. Asside from that, I dont see much in the way of independant auditing, public accountability etc to guarantee that it is all fair and above board. I would not donate to it. Being a student is so expensive these days - I have nephews and nieces (I love 'em dearly) going through it. They have to run cars, hold credit cards, buy stereos and CDs, party a lot - no wonder it costs so much . If you guys knew what it was like in MY day - you have never had it so good...rant...rant... I am sure Alain is a Grand Lad, and I might even vote for him (does not cost me anything). And I hope he gets his pony back soon (can anyone hear slide guitars?). Make it soon Alain, or you will have an awful lot of pots of glue to buy SORRY! I have looked at some other profiles - just drop the fluffy animals bit guys...If you want a degree, you might try my university "The Open University". This was started by the good old BBC for the UK, but is now international, both directly and by affiliation. There are no entry requirements. You study in your own time, and at your own pace, and hold down a full time job. It will not cost you $50,000 (probably 1/10 th of this) http://www.open.ac.uk/ You could also join our team below ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Dirk Gently at Apr 12, 2006 10:31:07 AM] |

Comments retracted, as it has been pointed out to me that this is a public Forum and everyone has the right to their opinions
