Graham, your response is out of line.
This is a public forum, and all comments within the WCG rules are perfectly admissible. The controversy exists only in your mind, and this is not the first time you have let such things influence your posts, to the detriment of your own image, your team and WCG's own reputation. If you don't want to enter into a discussion of the merits of this scheme, that's fine. If you want to air your own opinion, that's fine too. Comments such as "I don't recall asking for your opinion" are not fine. Is there any reason why I shouldn't report this to the admins? You are not making this a pleasant place. |

Quote - I don't recall asking for your opinion, just your vote!
----------------------------------------Yes you did! You asked for my vote, which would mean I expressed an opinion! You only invite positive opinions obviously! I gave my opinion as I am entitled to in this public forum. Well intentioned the thing might be - but it seeks our money by donation, so we have a right to question it. In the uk it would have to be a registered charity? I dont know about the US? Is it registered in any way? Why not? (in the UK it would get tax relief on the donations if it was) Quote - Would it not have been more appropriate to post your comments on http://www.helpastudent.com/ There is an option there to leave feedback I may do this. But you brought it to THIS FORUM for comment. Further on the subject of Education - It teaches you to question things! ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Dirk Gently at Apr 12, 2006 12:04:36 PM] |

Maybe. All my comments, and the others in this discussion, are visible for anyone to form an opinion. You have removed your comments, so clearly you feel they were out of line.
You don't need to delete your comments; an apology is enough. You can't "unsay" what has been said. |

Graham, your response is out of line. Some of your responses to me, as well as other members has also been out of line Maybe it is time for me to re-evaluate my reasons for being here Graham, I am sorry this has upset you so much. This was obviously something you thought was good. Perhaps I should not have been quite so acerbic in my comments myself. I have seen some good, helpful posts from you in these forums. I think you have good reason to be here. Apologies also to your team mate, for taking the p. We ALL have our off days! Come on chaps, lets keep this a pleasant place to be. Actually I have had a further look at "Help-a-Student" and I am feeling a little less po-faced about it now! Looking at the profiles, I see typical students - young - lively - inventive - daft as a brush! I also take back the "beauty pageant" accusation - take look at the first one called Andy... I still think that education should be provided free by a sensible and responsible state as the ultimate in self investment. However, a charitable scholarship should be based on academic merit and financial need. Now they must already have the merit - no responsible university will admit them otherwise. But it should also be means tested, they should have to prove they need help. The lack of this, and the lack of an independant overseer may explain its poor take up so far. It appears to be run by an individual who was talking of raising $1M dollars! So far it has $10,000 and only 18 days to go. It needed a board of trustees or some kind of reputable independant body to oversee it and convince the sceptics that it is worthy and genuine. One thing it DID get right is that it is not just a US thing. best wishes to you all ![]() |

Rose-tinted spectacles are all very nice, but you have to be a little cynical sometimes. Scams abound on the Internet, and while this one probably isn't a scam, it is unlikely to deliver what it says on the tin. I have no objection with you being cynical about something that is liable to affect you directly But I find it a bit mean spirited, when it is at someone elses expenseVoted for someone else on the strength of this post. I voted does that make me a better person. Someone is going to get the money. I could make the case that you bringing this to strangers to vote on is much more mean spirited and unethical than for someone to ask questions about a site they know nothing about. I should have read clear to the bottom. Still I wrote it I'll stand by it. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 12, 2006 9:04:31 PM] |

Just like you have made a career out of throwing in the towel twice so far, after throwing a hissy fit when you was scolded for being insensitive to people Only to return and pick up exactly where you left off by trying to create unnecessary drama again I apologised for my actions, so stop trying to exacerbate the situation? It would certainly appear that you are obviously not here to contribute towards helping to find a cure for AIDS, but to jump on the bandwagon and make waves? |

Try to edit your responses of unnecessary material before attempting to impress us with your insight. The evidence that you are a nincompoop will still be available to readers, but they will be able to access it more rapidly. |

I dont know whether I started this or merely revived some old and rather petty emnities. But please, lets stop it. I thought this was a happy place, where there might be the odd joke and lively disagreement, but not the personal acrimony that we are seeing now. Lighten up please folks ![]() |
