I have my screen set to shut down after 30 min. but my cpu is still on for 2 hrs does the system still use the CPU even though the screen shuts off ???

You just shut off your monitor, not your computer. If you're playing DVD and you turn off your TV, does your DVD player turn off? No, it continues to play the movie, blissfully unaware that you've given it the cold shoulder.
