     I thought it would be nice to spotlight various members of the Team Have you had an outstanding points day Or, made a significant move in the ranks Or, added some additional PC's to help the Team Or, are responsible for introducing a new Member to the Team Etc, Etc, Etc, if so please let me know to get yourself featured What do you think of this idea Guys |

Hey guys, I don't want to pester you or anything, but I'm applying for a scholarship and the way they issue it is by you getting friends to vote on you because they think you're a kind person. I figured since my team knew the contribution I was giving to WCG you could help me out and toss me a few votes. I'd really appreciate it. You're allowed to vote once a day, so by all means, keep coming back. http://www.helpastudent.com/alainbryden?602 thanks team Just a little reminder to cast your vote for Alain todayPlease click here to: Help a Student and Vote for Alain Bryden I have voted a couple of times for this, but noted that the site is going to award the scholarships based on "Our goal is to collect one million dollars by April 30th, 2006 and award it to the winners of our contest." However, they appear to only have collected a little over $10,000 so far, so the scholarships would only be for 1% of the intended total, with $500 for first place, $200 for second, $100 for third, and $84 for fourth through fiftieth. However, as a former student myself, I understand every bit helps, so I still gave my votes. I even thought about making a contribution, but then I noted that the web site has a goal of raising one million dollars, BUT THE AMOUNT OF THE TOTAL INTENDED PAID SCHOLARSHIPS IS ONLY $949,600!!! 1st Place: $50,000 2nd Place: $20,000 3rd Place: $10,000 4-50th: $394,900 ($8,400 x 47) TOTAL: $474,800 (This is doubled, as there are awards for each boys & girls) GRAND TOTAL $949,600 ($474,800 x 2) Does that mean that the first $50,400 is designated for the "administrative costs" of this program? For example, they award "$8,400" for 4th -50th place. However, they could have awarded over $8,900 for each of these placements, and STILL have paid out less than the intended one million dollars they hoped to raise, so they were certainly planning on NOT paying out the full one million dollars to the students! They have not yet raised even this first $50k, so I don't know if any students are going to receive anything. Does anyone know whether they are going to award any scholarships if they don't raise more than this first $50k? The reason I ask, is because I would rather not donate money to such a cause if there are not going to be any students that benefit from it. Had they surpassed this amount in fundraising, I would at least feel that the students would see some benefit, but otherwise, I am not convinced it is a prudent donation. Perhaps I am just jaded and suspicious, and I was not even a math major, but the figures on this thing just don't seem to add up. It still helps to vote though, because that doesn't cost anything other than the minimal additional work the CPU could be doing for WCG. Hopefully ALL the money raised goes to helps the students, and Alain and the other worthy students get their well deserved shares. |

Well spotted - and thanks for the 'heads up' I too have voted but I can see from this that it will probably not be of any tangible beneift to the students - just the organisers?. If it falls short of the target, which looks likely, I wonder if any of the fund will be disbursed or will it be retained to cover 'administration'. Worth watching, if I had the time!! |
