i tested refreshing the forums page and it still showed incorrect 'last posts'. of course once you enter the section, it states the posts correctly.

This error is due to mvnForum 1.0.0 RC3. It has been fixed in a later version, but WCG haven't upgraded yet. (Assuming the error I'm talking about is the same you're talking about.) I brought it up earlier.
