Hi,
who is Who is MCSDivision,Argonne National Laboratory? You are based in the US and i am sure behind this project is a Pharmaceutical company who will take advantage of this project! So this is a commercial project and you try to get people to install your client for free! This website does not tell anything about who is behind this project! If you can prove that this is not the case, please tell us! |

![]() I find it ironic that you quit crunching 8 months ago and have just decided to try and harpoon this project with no justifiable facts These Forums are full of credible, factual information if you take the time to look Do you really think that the 169,051 members that have joined this project have taken this project on face value?, "NOT!" Please click on the links below to read about the answers that you require It will help you to get your facts straight Our Mission, Our Work and You Advisory Board Partners ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by ErikaT at Oct 15, 2009 12:36:19 PM] |

Well, we are all entitled to our opinions, no matter how wrong they are. I took a couple of minutes to google Argonne National Lab, got to their home page where it says "A U.S. Department of Energy laboratory managed by The University of Chicago" along with plenty of information on what they really are. The links provided in the previous post will tell you what WCG really is. But frankly, facts are useless in the face of bias and prejudice. There are a lot of things in the US that are not deceptive, dishonest or self-serving not to mention a lot of good people. I don't expect you'll be interested in that though. Your loss.
----------------------------------------Oh, and those 169,000 members of the WCG are not all Americans. How does it feel to owe the whole world an apology? Don't worry, I'm not expecting one. |

seems to me his real question is aimed at the "end product" of all this.
----------------------------------------he wants to know who will test, make and sell the medicines that might be derived, and where the sales money will go (obviously he also has a more specific question about a certain agency). i'm not sure there are any answers at this time for such questions? if there are, perhaps it would have been simpler to give him a summary answer rather than post links. besides, the proteome project may lead to other therapies besides a 'new drug', am i correct? there might be no drug to sell, just new therapies. side issue: if this guy quit 8 months ago how can he still rank in the top 50,000? the number of active computers may be inflated as others have noted, rather than '165,000' or whatever. to the original poster, why don't you chill out instead of coming on with accusations? that's too harsh. Hi halfcard,
We have started sending out an email to everyone that has stopped returning results, urging them to start cunching again. I expect that is what brought wow44 back to the forum. He asked about the Mathematics and Computer Science (MCS) Division of Argonne National Laboratory ( http://www-fp.mcs.anl.gov/division/welcome/default.asp ), but never stated why. It is, as its name says, a national laboratory funded by the government. Lawrence |

I find it kind of amusing. The WCG website couldn't be more open about who is behind the WCG and the current WCG projects, and who may benefit from the results.
----------------------------------------A quick Google indicates that Argonne National Labs have a member on the WCG Advisory Board, along with many other institutions: Advisory Board Members [Edit 1 times, last edit by ErikaT at Oct 15, 2009 12:31:42 PM] |

Hi halfcard, i like that idea of emailing the lost members, that could be productive! Lawrence i continue to try to recruit on message boards - the most common objection i've had is: 'i don't want anybody taking over my computer!'. uhhhh, how do we answer that ![]() i guess that after a long history of spam, hijacked home pages, viruses, computer crashes, poor tech support, identity theft, fear of government spying, and who knows what else, we do not have an easy job!!! lol..... hijacked home pages, viruses, computer crashes, poor tech support, identity theft, fear of government spying, and who knows what else, we do not have an easy job!!! lol..... I have ran till now the following DC projects: F@H, FA@H, HPF, Rosetta@Home, Find-a-Drug. Ever since I started DCing about two years ago, I have had no hijacked home pages, viruses, computer crashes, etc. As a matter of fact my computer is more volnurable to surfing habits than running these programs. As for government spying believe me they already spy on you without your knowledge. They don't need to install spyware, and other malware programs to do that. As for identity theft, well thats an easy one. I never put any personal information on my computer. I never reveal my identity online unless it is a reputable organization. |

Well, that all sounds a little paranoid. But, as they say, that doesn't mean they aren't out to get you...
I find proper computer security does the trick. You need multiple layers of defense. Firewall, AV, malware scanner, security patches, safe surfing habits. And watch out for "reputable organisations". Read their privacy policy. They don't all take your privacy very seriously. |

Why not extend the statistics a little to include numbers that have returned results (say) in the last 3 months - or even have a selectable time period? |
