Same here JC - the last thing I remember reading a short while ago, was that they are currently testing the platform for stability etc, and 'will be available soon - not soon, soon - but soon'

i hope they take their time, considering all the past and present problems at 'grid.org' with their cancer work units!! Not the answer many of us are looking for. More importantly, we all await what progress has been done. Just replied in another thread and read something about "White Papers." I fully understand what Research is. Yes, it's not a "100 Meter Dash" at the Olympics. Still, recent news is hard to come by. I check every day at numerous websites. 'tis like a "1,000,000 Mile "Marathon". It seems as more effort is devoted to more drugs ... Very little about Cures... Ehhh, the railing of a common man. ---------------------------------------- but it looks like both of these things you ask for will be available sooner rather than later... guessing by mid year or even sooner... remember "guessing". From what I understand the UD agent will not be put on the MAC so that leaves BOINC. |

It is a secret, so don't tell anyone but it looks like both of these things you ask for will be available sooner rather than later... guessing by mid year or even sooner... remember "guessing". From what I understand the UD agent will not be put on the MAC so that leaves BOINC.I'll never tell! LOL! The edict came down from on high: 'soon - not soon, soon - but soon'. I'm guessing the actual announcement will come as on previous occasions: we will get a heads up to watch out for new work units prior to the official project launch, and the new platform will be presented as a fait accompli.
Since the target is Mac OS X, it will unquestionably be BOINC. Mac OS X is one of the officially supported BOINC platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux and Solaris/SPARC). The UD client seems to be an evolutionary dead-end. No doubt it will remain as a convenience for Windows users who prefer it, but frankly there seem to be more issues with the UD client than the BOINC client. However, WCG may be tied down by their agreement with United Devices. |

There will be a newsletter coming out 'soon' with more information.
My personal opinion is that the UD Windows client seems to be bug free. All the problems are caused by other software. But there are complaints about desired features that are not part of the UD client. BOINC has a rich list of features and is still being actively developed and debugged. Lawrence |

Well.... caused by conflicts with other programs. It is unclear which is actually to blame, in any particular case.
For example, that problem with McAfee. Does BOINC exhibit the same problem? Yet the science app is fundamentally the same. |
