The statistics for this grid should include a comparison report based upon how many members are from a particular Country and compare that to the population total of the Country.
By my calculations Canada is smoking the rest of the world for the amount of members/machines signed up compared to the population total of the Country. U.S. is second. Go Canada! I would like to see this implemented. It's not that hard of a query to run against the database and it is an easy web edit as well. Of course up to date population data would be needed for accurate results. Any thoughts? |

Go Canada! well, what about canadians living abroad? now there's a dilema! - i'm canadian but i live in italy, where should my points go? (provided, of course, that my work units stop aborting and start concluding something concrete that will actually generate a few points!) - hj, i do appreciate the spirit of what you're saying but i don't see the benefit in focusing on such a competitive approach - the idea of a 'world community' is to create and maintain a sense of unity, not competition, amongst peoples and countries - a project of this magnitude goes beyond borders and passports, that's the beauty of it bonnie |

But in the real world a little competetive spirit works quite well. Why would this grid have the ability to have teams if not to be "competetive"? Honestly I don't see any other use for teams than for just that? For that matter why have a point system at all? Because competition works, thats why. So why not show these stats as well? |

![]() ............well, i'm a good person BUT i wouldn't go so far as to call myself altruistic ;-) I am absolutely not trying to be overly competetive. But in the real world a little competetive spirit works quite well. ............and this whole project is OBVIOUSLY playing on that ;-) Why would this grid have the ability to have teams if not to be "competetive"? ..............that is a very correct observation, to go one step further, it's a reward system created to make us feel that we've achieved something and to keep us commited to the project Honestly I don't see any other use for teams than for just that? For that matter why have a point system at all? Because competition works, thats why. ..........exactly, i couldn't agree more, but i also know that canadians (and i include myself here) have a need to be acknowledged and recognised as a seperate nation and people from the states (similar to how the belgians distinguish themselves from the french and the austrians from the germans, etc.) - you did specify that the US was second to canada, and you obviously find satisfaction in that - i was only putting forth the possibility that this space and this project could possibly go beyond that.......... bonnie |

Basically all you would have to be concerned about is your personal contribution. Computer useage, power consumption, and the like. Now if you think that you owe Canada in some way for how you feel about contributing to, and ultimatly joining in on this grand process then by all means join a Canadian team and stand proud. Now if you think that you owe Canada in some way for how you feel about contributing to, and ultimatly joining in on this grand process then by all means join a Canadian team and stand proud. you may have a point, i didn't reflect on the ramifications of joining or not joining a team, i just did it instinctively, a ''strength in numbers'' gesture ..............certainly after seeing jocelyn and dave's post, i can see the way this thread is going.........the usual can/us tension/competition is starting to rise, i think i'll stay over here in the EU for now............being a citizen of both continents (i have canadian + italian citizenship), i find that i'm always having to choose between the two of them on many life aspects, not just this community work.......as for 'owing' canada something, i certainly wouldn't use that verb to express my feelings for my home country..............and i'm already very proud to be canadian, i just live in a bigger picture now, and this gives me a wider view of the world, and THIS is the point behind all my comments in this thread, which btw, you haven't picked up on. bonnie |

Ah, now we resort to statistics.
Canada is #2, face it. You'll have to try harder, and yes competition is a wonderful motivator. I joined this project because it might cure something someday, benefit me and my family someday. But, harmless competition keeps you going! |
