Dont worry about your brother that much hey...
show him by all means but hey there are a lot of nieve people out there and a lot are so called computer experts... as for being a worm in the computer, well that is quit often an excuse for not wanting to be shown something by someone else... he probably doesnt think you know as much as him and i'll say you are one up on him already as you've done your research and know what your doing... WELL DONE AND KEEP GOING, YOUR DOING SOMETHING FROM YOUR HEART... as for disabled people being a burden on society..well i suppose i'm one of those now and i run rings around 99% of the people in my town but they do not regard me as disabled but view me as a pc expert..(good thing they dont know the truth...i'm a linux nut not an expert)... When you get a so called pc expert you will find they know very little about pc's but get paid to work on them...see them quite a bit and they eventually get shown to be what they are...You keep persisting with him and teach him that he is not better than you but needs to leanr more... ![]() |

The TRUTH is that he probably don't want to run the program...alot of people just don't want to think about it. Well, i am sorry to strongly disagree with you. implying that you know the truth about someone you don't know, can't lead you on wise ways. . Even if it's true, you'd verify things before giving such strong statement. particularly in the topic of aids, you should have learn that the first sigh idea is not necesserly the best one. As far as i can remember the first statement about aids, were pretending that it was a cure to drive homosexual people to hell. So at least in my opinion i prefer thinking twice before speaking. Peace. |

"If this was a really important research avenue, labs would buy whatever hardware is necessary to be able to compute it first and patent it. "
I think the word you're looking for is "profitable" not "important". There is lots of important research that should be done, but medical research is mostly business, not charity. |

Maybe somebody knows links of oficial sites some state institutions, where was writen about this project or other cases? Please write about it. Thanks. P.S Sorry for mistakes P.P.S Якщо тут є хтось з України, то відізвіться!!! If your brother has an equally good command of Norwegian as you have of Russian you both should find the chapter of the Blogg posted by the editor March 3rd. on the web site of the (National) Norwegian Broadcasting Corporaration (Norsk rikskringkasting) http://www.nrk.no/programmer/tv/schrodingers_katt/0.html?p_saksunivers_id=5164[/url] Keep on crunching. There is an old saying in American business, "No one ever got fired from recommending IBM." In this case, IBM isn't selling any hardware or software. IBM is hosting the servers and is one of the big sponsors of this project. (Thanks and kudos to IBM, by the way) IBM has too much reputation to lose by being sloppy with their security, so they are treating this project with great care. I would challenge your friend to follow the links supplied by earlier posters, contact his anti-virus vendor if he doesn't trust his scan results (against the FightAIDS@Home download), and ask his supervisors. There are many thousands of computers throughout the world that trust this software, and we don't get any side benefit, such as music sharing, other than helping Scripps fight this modern plague. All the previous posts show the pure dedication by all the volunteers involved. Either they believe in what we are trying to do for mankind or they just don't. It's there choice......a bad choice not to help the rest of find cures and therapies for Cancer, Aids and whatever other important projects IBM links us to. I don't cost them a dime and if there computer is just sitting there doing nothing, then why not have the WCG running. It won't hurt the computer, and they don't even have to look at it after it's installed. It runs all by itself. Maybe just maybe what we are trying to do will affect someone else's future for the good. Show them all the info and the rest will be up to them!!!! |

Very important issues you two are discussing here. Quite a few people will say that the discovery of penicillin by Alexander Flemming was the "sesam" that opened for modern medicin. Flemming with a professor position in London, I have been told, gave away the patent rights to the benefit of mankind which at that point in time was foremost represented by the sick and wounded soldiers from World War II. The manufacturers were still the privately owned companies, but both the engineers and the workers (including the glass washers and the floor sweepers) deserv and need their pay, but the the investor will also need interest to expand the building that is human culture. May be there are somebody with closer knowledge of A. Flemming and the history of penicillin who will share their thoughts on these matters.
But till the discovery is made we'll just go on crunching. Respectfully, Wood chopper. |

An EASY TO UNDERSTAND reply to all these commonly asked questions, along with questions about the legitimacy and safety of WCG (hoax?, trojans?, really IBM?, etc.) should be available in various formats (Word, PDF, JPG, etc.). The link should be EASILY LOCATED on WCG homepage.
The reply should also provide links to other well known and trusted names' websites that support WCG (e.g., IBM, CNN, BBC, Time, Newsweek, PC Magazine, Business Week, World Health Organization, Nat'l Science Foundation, etc.). I am a new pround member of WCG. However, it was difficult and time consuming for me to become comfortable with WCG. I spent two weeks looking around WCG website and links before I felt comfortable enough about the security and the legitimacy of WCG. Most people I know are willing to help, but will not go through the technical precess of verifying the information they receive. =============================== Hello Eric-Montreal, If it leads to a major discovery, who will own it ? will the resulting medication be immediately placed in the public domain or not ? This represents a basic misunderstanding of patents. We are releasing knowledge into the public domain. Anybody can use it freely to develop a product, which they can then patent for themselves. We can slow down research or speed it up, but it would require a change in patent law for anything that we do to affect anyone else's right to patent a product. Why should I help 'Big Pharma' to reduce their research costs when medication cost is driven by marketing (the highest price the local market will bear) rather than actual product cost ? Why not help yourself by speeding up medical research? After all, only a small percentage of pharmaceutical companies' budgets are spent on basic research. Vast sums are spent on clinical trials, marketing, and law suits. If this was a really important research avenue, labs would buy whatever hardware is necessary to be able to compute it first and patent it. That underestimates the size of the problem space by several orders of magnitude. The complexity of living organisms is enough to keep every scientist in the biological field fully occupied for a lifetime. There are plenty of opportunities and not many minds to examine each opportunity. Lawrence |

There are many here that only posted once, so at least they joined the discussion.
----------------------------------------The reply should also provide links to other well known and trusted names' websites that support WCG (e.g., IBM, CNN, BBC, Time, Newsweek, PC Magazine, Business Week, World Health Organization, Nat'l Science Foundation, etc.). The partner link on the main page has links to 172 of them.An EASY TO UNDERSTAND reply to all these commonly asked questions, along with questions about the legitimacy and safety of WCG (hoax?, trojans?, really IBM?, etc.) should be available in various formats (Word, PDF, JPG, etc.). The link should be EASILY LOCATED on WCG homepage. I don't even have WORD here, but use Word Perfect. JPG is a graphics element. What about GIF, TIF, BMP, and yet more? Have you ever heard of Forgent? They don't even make anything anymore. Their business is sueing companies that use large amounts of JPG since Forgent bought the company that made it originally. One answer to all questions in all formats might be asking for a bit much. The files are encrypted and transferred using the secure socket layer. We know of no viruses at all after millions of transactions. Whatever ELSE you are doing on your computer is much more dangerous. There are some other threads on this forum with good information and replies, and they have been referenced many times. Medical information by itself is very complex. We have whole sections for each project. There are three main links on the lower left of the main site in the WHAT WE DO area that point to pages of information about the projects and have yet other links. Did you start there? The links that some have posted here may be overkill. I will add only one more link, about many distributed computing projects. If this one is too complex for words, there are many easy-to-understand things out there. http://www.distributedcomputing.info As you can see from my signature box, I have run many of them myself.
