Anton,
The problem with your "cure" is that the HIV virus infects even "dormant cells" ones that are not active within the host body, or in the blood stream, also if you kill off "all" of the t-cells, then the host body would become susceptible to all sorts of infections, including infections from "healty" bacteria that are contained in the host body. If it was as simple as that, then full blood transfusions would cure the disease, and that doesnt work due to the "dormant" infected cells. |

rbolo29, i suppose a.k.a. rbolo28, quoting you...
----------------------------------------much as Newton didn't accept Einstien. Newton died i firmly 'believe' before Einstien was born, so Isaac never got the chance to accept Albert, unless you're talking about meetings in the here-after......I'm not privy of those

You're right Sekerob: I. Newton died in 1727 while Einstein was born in 1879. When NASA put a man on the moon it was so to speak all Newtonian mechanics though - or at least hardly any Einstein. So with the seize of the space vehicle used for the trip going by relatively slow speeds(compared to the speed of light) - Newton works wonders. By the way Einstein didn't get the Nobel Price for the relativity theory. He got it for his work on the photo-electric effect.

It is only relatively recently they have began to investigate what a virus even is. Before the HIV scare nobody really cared what a virus even was for the most part.
A quick search on googles reveals that HIV does attack T-cell primary but also may damage other cells in the body as shown with long term HIV survivors. Either way, even the best experts in the world can't all agree whether a virus is actually dead or alive tho the current consensus is dead. I have to wonder how something that isn't alive can serve or perform a function? There has been much ignorance thoughout history and hard lessons learned indeed. |

That's not entirely accurate. Viral research was in progress long before the AIDS story broke, and the first retro virus was discovered before HIV.
Certainly, HIV has accelerated some aspects of research, but viral research and microbiology has had plenty of other tasks, and would have continued with or without HIV. We're just getting better at doing science, that's all. |

I spoke today with a researcher at NIH (National Institutes of Health) who indicated that in a certain species of monkeys, SIV (Simian Immunodeficiency Virus, or HIV's animal cousin) spreads very aggressively and in a matter of months wipes out almost the whole immune system - CD4 and the other "longterm" immunity cells. I thought that was interesting to know.
