information about HIV

hi.
I know that HIV virus is using so called T-cells to reproduce.
So, my first question is, do they use ONLY this cells, or maybe HIV can also infiltrate in the other tipe of cells?

The second question is: how long can HIV virus survive in the human organism(i mean only HIV without T-cell)?

Re: information about HIV

Hello Anton the AIDS Fighter,
You are asking simple questions, but I do not dare give any answers. People have been making surprising discoveries about HIV these last 2 years, and I expect we are going to get more surprises. Here is another surprise I just noticed: http://www.sciencedaily.com/upi/index.php?fee...1350500-bc-us-hiv-crn.xml

smile Re: information about HIV

Hi Yas!!!

An interesting twist on aids. Seems it is possible to develope a vacine!!

At least in theory. Got this off the University of Washingtons Baker Lab site:

"One of the reasons that HIV is such a deadly virus is that it has evolved to trick the immune system. We are collaborating with researchers in Seattle and at the NIH to try to develop a vaccine for HIV. Our role in this project is central--we are using ROSETTA to design small proteins that display the small number of critical regions of the HIV coat protein in a way that the immune system can easily recognize and generate antibodies to. Our goal is to create small stable protein vaccines that can be made very cheaply and shipped all over the world."

Another way of putting this, is a vaccine would paint the vulnerable virus area so as the immune system can recognize them and go about destroying them.

But in order to create such a vaccine you have to have your protien prediction part of the program at 100 percent accuracy as I have found out from further inquiry. This being at this point in the game, due to a lack of computing power, a mighty big IF.

So thier is hope maybe on the horizon.

Have a Great Day All......Ciao

Re: information about HIV

I have to disagree with current information that is known. It is my personal belief that an HIV vaccination will be nothing more then a waste of money and time at this point and maybe for a very very long time if ever.

It is only very recently that scientists have began to look at what a virus even is. In the cold war we had nuclear and biological weapons to build. We didn't car about viruses...or believe they were even worth studying.

HIV is probably the first virus which has recently gotten the most attention and now some scientists are actually becoming more interested.

Scientists are going to need more structured plans. They are going to need to develepe the tools, technology and most importantly the "know how" to effectively combat viral illness.

I believe the recently discovered process called "RNAi" or "RNA Interference" holds an important key. More information on this process can be found on a simple google search.

Now if the injected shots were to target specific proteins then it could in theory make the body able to recognize the viral code and destroy it by a process now dubbed "dicer" within the cell machinery.

Also, I believe if you do a some searching you will find HIV mainly targets T-cell but it also infects other cells in the body to. This infection causes damage to vital system organs such as the heart,brain,liver,eyes..etc on a longer term basis. Scientists don't yet fully understand the process involved.

The HIV virus causes a complex series of events to happen. HIV is associated with causing illness such as higher blood pressure even.

If you take home anything then let it be your will to think and make your own judgements where science leaves off.

But we have to try, otherwise we will never know. Could anyone have predicted that some day we will invent airplanes, radios, computers, no. BTW these all started with fundamental work by scientists in the 1800 doing work on classical electricity and magnetism (Coloumb, Faraday, Maxwell). Could they have predicted that a 100 years later their discoveries will lead to these devices being built.

Re: information about HIV

Yes, correct thinking in a way but not correct in another. Do you think millions of year of evolution will be underminded overnight? We would have to think we are GOD to believe so.

Viruses serve an evolutionary purpose. I believe that is population control. But, yet we are given brains and higher intelligent order for a PURPOSE. We have the great RESPONSIBILITY to evolve and understand the working of the universe in which we live.

We would be doing a great injustice if we didn't seek to understand viruses and to effectively turn the tables in our favor. Ignorance might be bliss but serves no EVOLUTIONARY PURPOSE for us.

Einstien was great but he died a miserable dead dog. He stopped learning and couldn't accept newer theories much as Newton didn't accept Einstien.

Don't become an old fart or a dead dog !!!

Always evolve to learn more..and to never stop that process.

Newton didn't accept Einstien

Well, I know General Relativity (arguably) allows for the possibility of time travel, but I remain firmly convinced that Einstein never nipped back to tell Newton about his theories ("Hey Newton! You're all wrong, nyah-nyah-nyah! And everybody's going to think Hooke was the smart one! Prrrrrppppptt!" Wouldn't you love to be a fly on that wall!)

Re: information about HIV

Anton,

I saw several responses, but didnt see a direct answer to your question. To answer your question, YES, the HIV virus does specifically target the Immune system "T-Cells" in its infection. I will try to explain the process simply and quickly. First the virus latches on to a "T-Cell" once attatched it injects its own "RNA" into the t-cell (Drugs known as Infusion inhibitors work to prevent this). Once the virus "RNA" is in the cell it uses a process known as "Reverse transcriptease" to change that virus "RNA" into compatible "DNA". (Drugs known as nucleotide and non-nucleotide reverse transcriptease inhibitors work to stop this process) The converted "DNA" (double helix) then enters the nucleus of the "T-Cell" Once in the nucleous, the viral "DNA" becomes part of the "t-cell" genetic structure and causes the "T-cell" to become an "HIV" factory that produces copies of the virus. The copies then "sprout" out of the infected cell (Drugs known as Protese inhibitors help prevent this action.)to find new "T-cells" to latch on to to continue the process. I hope this helps answer your question, and I hope you have a better understanding of the virus.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask, I am one of those who unfortunately have first hand knowledge of this horrible disease.

Derek

Re: information about HIV

thanks Deerk
I asked such a question becouse i have an idea how to destroy HIV virus in the body of the patient. Maybe my idea was alredy checked, but still....
What if we take an HIV-positive patient in the isolated room, and then we will
destroy all his T-cells and prevent the breeding of new T-cells in the organism. So we will destroy the whole immune system of the patient, and with it we will leave no chance to HIV to duplicate itself. AS i know the HIV virus cant exisit in human medium for long time, so HIV willl have no possibilities to survive. We just have to wait , till the virus will be destoyed, and then we can let the immunu sistem to produce T-cells.
I hope you understand what i mean....
To hear comments will be nice...
