Hi Bonnie
I cannot be sure but it appears that you are still trying to crunch a bad work unit If you right click on the World Community Grid Agent in the System Tray in the bottom right hand corner of your screen you will have 4 choices OPEN, SNOOZE, HELP, AND EXIT Click on EXIT and this will close the program down Clicl on START in the left hand corner of your screen Click on RUN Type in EXPLORER Click on OK Click on (C:) Click on Program files Navigate down to WorldCommunityGrid Click on WorldCommunityGrid Now double click on UD.EXE When the program opens it should connect with WCG and download a new Work Unit This worked for me, So give it a try and let me know how you got on I hope this suggestion helps Graham |

hi graham
thanks for getting back to me :-) i tried your solution..... but when i relaunched the ud.exe file it just returned to the same unit - i read (somewhere else in the forums) a suggestion to halt the unit in process - so i just deleted it from my c: drive (yup, i dumped it in my recycle bin! called, rather appropriately, the 'garbage bin' in italian! my pc is italian) and relaunched ud.exe which immediately downloaded another unit - only to my surprise it 'appears' that the new unit has the exact same file tiltle and unit number ud_21380.exe as the dumped one! i just can't get rid of this bloody unit - do you think that i should delete all wcg programs/files and start all over? is that too drastic a solution? btw: i navigate on my pc simply by opening and using the 'explorer' window directly through a link i set up on my desktop or by clicking on the icon on the bar at the bottom of the screen (the tray? right?) - no need to use the start menu anyway, thanks again, i appreciate the time you took for me bonnie |

Hi,
I also have ud_21380.exe (really don't know how they name these files) and it's running perfectly well. Right now 45% percent have been completed after 17 hours. As the flawed workunits have been removed from the server everything should be fine for you. Regards, Steve |

................steve, i'm glad to hear that, i thought that it was fixated on me! Right now 45% percent have been completed after 17 hours. ..............well, this is promising and gives me a sense of hope, thanks red dragon. As the flawed workunits have been removed from the server everything should be fine for you. ............in theory, yes, but can we be sure that all flawed units have been detected and removed? knowing my luck, they missed one and i've got it living in my cpu! i shall remain hopeful and patient :-) bonnie |
