Numbe of Devices

I have been running two (2) computers under the same profile. My daughters’ computer hung up on a project for three (3) days.

I removed the program from her computer and re-installed it. Everything is running great again... except now it lists that I have three (3) devices installed. My daughters’ computer is listed twice... Mon Feb 06 18:07:48 GMT 2006 and also Wed Feb 22 00:51:05 GMT 2006.

How do I remove one of the devices so that it shows that I'm only running two (2)?

Re: Numbe of Devices

Hello Sweettoothbear,
The short answer is - do nothing and the device installation will disappear after 2 weeks without a result. It will still be available if you use the drop down menu to change that time window so you can always see the statistics for it. So your device count will always be 3, but you will only see the names of your currently active devices.

Re: Numbe of Devices

Hi, I am experiencing a similar situation. I have WCG installed on four machines. I had to uninstall WCG from one of these machines and I later re-installed it, giving the machine the same name as before. I just noticed that this machine is now listed twice under the Device Manager for an incorrect total of five(5) devices.

I noticed this thread was created back in February and I thought I'd post in it to see if a solution has come up since then for this small little defect. Frankly, "wait for it to go away" is not good enough as it will still show an incorrect total of devices even if the 'old' listing disappears from the Device Manager list.

I appreciate any input you can give. Thanks!

Re: Numbe of Devices

I bet 50% of WCG members have 1 or more extra devices. I have 12 devices that are either duplicates of other devices or devices that are no longer active. It causes me absolutely no grief and nobody else has mentioned any real grief either, AFAIK. If it's causing you grief please let us know and we'll try to think of a workaround. I don't think WCG has any immediate plans to allow members to delete or merge devices.

Nah, it's not causing any grief. I was just curious as it doesn't make sense for the stats to say I have five installations when I in fact have only four, that's all. I'm sorry if I came across a little edgy in my post. It certainly was not my intention.

Re: Numbe of Devices

Have a look around in other posts by WCG tech staff....technical issues....merging causing major database performance effects...it's been tried at other DC projects! Also there is an auditing and history maintenance requirement, that needs acceptable resolution. Personally, the device manager section has a default filter....automatically any device not used for 14 days(?) drops off the initial view.....grief factor = zero.

Re: Numbe of Devices

Varrus, when the stats are overhauled shortly, the plan is to change the device count to the number of active devices, not the number of registered devices.

For technical reasons, all your registered devices will be kept - but they will only be displayed if you go hunting for them.
