Thanks for the suggestion. I personally like the idea. Does anyone else wish to weigh in about this idea? I also like this subject--This is what brought me to WCG and all the people on my team and others being so supportive--sometimes i feel like there is nowhere to go but i always find very thoughful and kind people here ![]() Johnny Cool Excellent idea!!!!!!!!!! That way everyone's story will be in one place. Easy to find! Might be the one thing to get people interested in what were doing here, and why were doing it. We all have our stories of why were here! This way they will all be in one spot for all to read. To give them a little glimpse as to why we are here......... |

For example, Cancer patients go to another website for questions, answers and so forth. As well they should. It would be great to see this forum finally become reality. To inform patients concerning news of our progress (and the many others who are suffering other diseases). There seems to be a "disconnect" between "Crunchers" and for those who are going through many diseases. I have sent emails to several folks who are fighting Cancer, Diabetes, and other diseases. All they see is "Points" here. We need to let them know about the Results that we are turning in. Hope is a *huge* four letter word. Perhaps these "stories" will inspire them even further, and inspire other folks to crunch here for Results. This is why we are all here. |

As a kid I grew up with the slide rule so I find the WCG a great inspiration to what the calculator can achieve and I for one would welcome a more human aspect to this grid. A voice for those we are here to help would be a great thing to do here. |

I have a slide rule - I can even use it. Mind you, I was horrified to discover how inaccurate the things are.

A 'Why We Are Here' link on the WCG home page is what we need for those just passing and not sure what we are all about. Click on that link and you would be presented with a choice of threads. One would be what we are discussing here and another might be official updates from our hosts on potential and proven results gleaned from our crunching so far. I understand we are a new and driven grid but the 'just passing' might need some help.

Orakk, a good time to bring this thread back.
----------------------------------------I am still hoping that we can have a forum that addresses this issue. This is a post I made back in November of last year on another Board. I hope the following is not "over the top". Personally, I don't think so. I am compelled to post this: November 9th, 2005 A Tribute to my neighbor, Mr. M. I've known Mr. M and his Wife for several years. They lived right next door to me. Even then, I knew that both were having major health problems. It is ironic that a young and vibrant Teacher lives to the left of me. Getting back to Mr. and Mrs. M .... Yes, both of them would tell you that they are fine. Mr. M, was a Senior Citizen, and was (along with his Wife who still lives) a pillar of strength in our Neighborhood. Very, very kind neighbors. I noticed all the Bird feeders that they had in both of their back and front yards. They even had a small Kokopelli statue in their front yard. Mr. M got a small Poodle about three years ago. He would walk that dog every day. Yet, the steps that he took were "quarter" steps. You could tell he had major problems walking. Mr. M would greet me early in the morning, getting his newspaper as I did. He would always greet me with a hearty "Good Morning, Johnny"! Rather peaceful Gentleman, with nothing but positive things to say. Two years ago, although he had an automatic sprinkler system to water his lawn and garden, I had noticed that he would (on bended knee) water the same. Every day. I think I know why he did that now. Two months ago, I noticed many Family Members coming to his home. I asked them how where things going. They told me. News was not good. For the last two months, some Medical folks would arrive at their home (their small van had clear markings who they were). They informed me that it was not a good time to visit. This past Sunday, Mr. M had passed away. What I did not know, is that Mr. M, had a leg amputated a month ago. Mr. M passed away because of bone cancer. Mr. M's wife continues to get worse, and her Family Members visits every day. I was told that any visit to their Home was kinda iffy. It's frustrating to know that your Neighbor has passed away without any "timely" word. Mr. M, I will sorely miss you. I've never met anyone as "strong as you". So kind and so positive; even to the end. And I never got a chance to see you these two past months. Mr. M, I grieve your passing. May you finally rest in peace. Well, Mr. M's wife died last night. Nearly six months to the day that Mr. M passed away. And no, I did not get a chance to see her. /sighs heavily My Mother called her only two days ago. My Neigbors next door, gone. What an empty feeling. |
