Hi,
I think I can help a bit with the Turkish translation of the website and I think some other people may be interested in translating the site. So here is the question, how does the translation stuff work? I mean, technically, do you use some content management system which allows some contents to be translated, or do we have to fiddle with HTML code/templates to get the site translated? What happens to translations when/if the overall design of the site changes? Thanks, -- Enver |

Thank you for your offer which I will pass on to the project manager of the World Community Grid. Similar offers have been made by others for assistance in making translations to languages such as Chinese and French. The project manager responded to one of these offers as follows" This is an interesting offer. Let me look into our development schedule (because even a translation would require our time) and also try to find someone in IBM China who can help validate the translation. I will respond to the individual later today. One thing that makes me cautious is that if we accept this, I bet that we will have volunteers from a number of other countries also volunteer to translate. Which would both a blessing and a curse. We know that there are at least 10 languages that we would like to see translated for us. French actually is scheduled to be first because it is required in Canada. Perhaps we should make a list of top 10 languages that we would like to have volunteers for and publish the list? Since the time that was said, the project team has made much of the web site available in the French language. I believe that the translations were made entirely by IBM employees without any assistance from volunteers. It may continue to be their desire to have the translations done within IBM. You may want to consider developing a web site or online forum about the World Community Grid in your own language. Some of these have been developed by individual members and still others have been developed by teams. The web sites most often contain information about what the World Community Grid is and the projects that are currently being run. Detailed instructions on how to install and run the software is usually the other part of these sites. Best regards, |

We translate into other languages very carefully because any content changes have to be effected across all languages. Our schedule permits us to translate 2 to 3 languages per year. That is because our priority is boarding new research projects.
Unfortuanately the Turkish language is as of yet not high on our translation schedule. Perhaps you can rally Turkish speaking people in the forums as some of the other teams have done. Another thing some teams are doing is to have an outside website in their own language. |
