WU Starts over after computer reboot

Is there a reason why my WU restarts from the beginning when I reboot my computer? This doesn't seem to happen all of the time but it does happen enough times that it is slowing down the amout of WU that my computer finishes each day. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Thanks,

Warren

Re: WU Starts over after computer reboot

If the workunit has not reached the first checkpoint, it will start over from the beginning if the computer has been restarted.

Another question? Why all of the reboots? Many just keep crunching 24/7, and only reboot once in a while if needed.

Re: WU Starts over after computer reboot

Thanks for the info. I just thought it was something abnormal with my agent. I don't do a lot of rebooting, just when I have to update software that requires a reboot.

Thanks,

If you are running a FightAIDS@Home work unit, it does not checkpoint as frequently as the HPF work units, so it is more likely to have to restart from ground zero.

Thank you it did seem to be happening when AIDS@Home was running rather than the HPF was. Thank you for your help - Warren

In the last week, I have seen some nasty ones. A workunit I was watching yesterday only had one intermediate checkpoint...after an hour-and-a-half at 50% execution.
That is on an AMD64 4000+ processor score 235. Slower machines could take several hours to reach that point.
Before this week, most checkpointed every 4-8 minutes, and I would only see a long one every now and then. We must be going through a series of difficult dockings.

Re: WU Starts over after computer reboot

I have read around the forums and it seems to me that the issue essentially is saving, or more precisely, the lack of saving.

I recall having first noticed the problem sometime Dec 2005 when a local power outage occured. By chance I got a look at the progress before the outage occured. and after the reboot after the restoration of power, the work unit was back to zero. I just lost better than 50% or about 4hours of runtime zapped right there!

So, it seems to me that the issue was there all along; it is just only now, as I have, that we talk about it after an encounter with the issue.
