If you had a backup of the data, it would be possible to restore the same device. You did back up your hard drive didn't you? confused

Otherwise, you can only get a different device. It is possible to rename the old device and reuse the original name, but the early statistics remain with the first one, whatever it is called.

Re: The same device after HDD death ??

URQA --

Flange is correct that restoring the application from a backup would work. The reason for this is that during the registration process that you go through after installing the software, a unique Device ID is asigned for that installation. The statistics database uses this Device ID and not the Device Name to accumulate data, one for each Device ID assigned. If you use the same Device Name, the result will be multiple records with that name when you list your Device Statistics. Had you used a backup and restored the application as Flange indicated, the restored copy would not have to go through the registration process and the original Device ID assigned would continue to be used.

As I have worked on problems here in the forums, I have occasionally tried to duplicate installation problems that members have reported. The result of this is that I have statistics showing for six devices, three with one name and three with another.

The project team has accepted a suggestion made in these forums that members be allowed to combine the multiple records for one system. Since there are many other higher priority items such as bringing on new applications and allowing the projects to run under different operating systems, it is impossible to say when this change might be made.

Best regards,
