Percentage

My new fah keeps on going back to 0% after I have done another hour cpu work for another boinc. Is there something wrong with this WU?

Re: Percentage

Hello madmac,
That sounds as though the checkpoint never gets stored in the work file. If you have successfully computed FAAH units on that machine before, then it is not a problem with file access permissions. It may be a slow work unit that needs longer than normal to reach a checkpoint - - - or something might be wrong.

Isn't 1 hour a short time to allocate to a work unit?

Re: Percentage

It was not storing it in the memory,I had three hours work done but after one hour it went back to zero. So I went into my computer profile found I had two devices and checked on both one did not have store in memory so I ok this and the other device did. So I updated through Boinc manager and at this moment it has gone to about two hours. It seemed that my default had been changed but I did not change it but I have home as my default and that tell it to store it in memory. Why this Wu went onto the default and not home I do not know.

Re: Percentage

What's really weird is that now my computer is doing the same thing. I let it run for 3 1/2 hours the other day, then rebooted and it started all over again at 0%. I did that several times over the next few days and it repeated the same thing. So I uninstalled the client, deleted all folders, then reinstalled a fresh version from the web. Still does it. Is there a problem with the recently released WU's?

Re: Percentage

Hello myself007_180,
Is your computer completing any work units successfully?
If not, you might want to try running the diagnostics in 'Useful Utilities' at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2490

1) Motherboard Monitor: http://mbm.livewiredev.com/
Monitors CPU temperature. If the manufacturer does not supply a temperature monitoring program for your board, then see if this program works with your computer. If the temperature is too high, then read http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2683

2) CPU Tester: http://7byte.com/index.php?page=download
General diagnostic program

3) Memory Tester: http://www.memtest86.com/
Memory diagnostic program

All this is assuming you are running Windows.

Hello mycrofth!
I have the same problem as myself007_180.
My agent version is 3.0 (2844). Project FIGHTAIDS@HOME (version 4.0.3.2). When I normaly quit from agent and then start it again all the made work is lost. Time saves, but unit processing starts from 0%.

Regarding the UD specific issue, how long has it been running? When you restart, does the time get reset as well? Finally, before quitting the agent, take a look at the graphics. Is there a red dotted line in the C panel? How far along is the green line?

Finally, could you provide your device ID and approximate time you were/are running this workunit so we can identify it and take a look at it?

Thanks.

It's possible that FAAH is taking a long time to checkpoint...longer than it takes before being preempted and removed from memory. If this is the case, it will never checkpoint and you'll be in a cycle. If you are keeping it in memory, this shouldn't happen. We try to make sure the checkpoints happen more frequently than once per hour, but these workunits are all variable, so it's possible, especially on slower machines, that it just may take quite a while before a docking is completed (at which point it checkpoints).

How far along does the progress get before you see it reset to 0? Can you provide the name of the workuit so we can take a look at it?

Thanks,

Re: Percentage

Some of the computations take much longer betwen checkpoints and if you shut down your machine or turn off the agent during one of these, it has to resume from the prior checkpoint. One solution would be to use Suspend or Hibernate instead of Shut Down, if your machine supports it. That way, the computation can continue from exactly where it left off. Another suggestion would be to just leave the machine on for a much longer time until it gets through the difficult part of the work which has longer checkpoint intervals (especially on slower machines).
