Homepage unreachable with new IP-Range from Provider

Hi,

my Internet Provider (www.freenet.de, big one here in Germany) has a new IP-Address range
which starts with 89.x.x.x.

When I get a Address from this range (and I always get one from this new range) I cannot reach the www.worldcommunitygrid.org Homepage or up/download work units.

I ask my Provider what to do and they tell my it is up to you to add this IP-Address range to the router.

I make a trace route and it look like this:

3 135 ms 133 ms 152 ms G3-0.mch2-g.mcbone.net [62.104.218.5]
4 155 ms 142 ms 137 ms lo0-0.lpz2-j.mcbone.net [62.104.191.207]

5 134 ms 138 ms 146 ms ge-2-0-0-0.hnv2-j.mcbone.net [62.104.191.192]

6 152 ms 155 ms 147 ms L0.dus1-g2.mcbone.net [62.104.191.143]

7 150 ms 161 ms 182 ms ge-6-12.car2.Dusseldorf1.Level3.net [212.162.47.1]

8 138 ms 139 ms 142 ms ge-2-0-0.bbr2.Dusseldorf1.Level3.net [4.68.96.21]

9 276 ms 273 ms 271 ms ae-0-0.bbr1.Denver1.Level3.net [64.159.1.113]

10 276 ms 278 ms 277 ms so-9-0.hsa1.Denver1.Level3.net [4.68.113.54]

11 276 ms 272 ms 273 ms IBM-GS-NA.hsa1.Denver1.Level3.net [209.245.20.10]

12 * * * Zeitüberschreitung der Anforderung.
13 * * * Zeitüberschreitung der Anforderung.
14 * * * Zeitüberschreitung der Anforderung.

Hope you can help me so I can go on and FigthAids@home

Thx
the_mof

PS. I wrote this from my Company Network and it works fine.

Grüße und Willkommen zum Weltgemeinschaftsrasterfeld.

I am not aware of anything special relating to the IP address range of 89.x.x.x, but I am requesting that one of the World Community Grid technicians look at this to see if they can determine why it is being rejected. Hopefully they will be able to resolve this for you so that you can continue to crunch with us.

Tschüß

There should not be anything which blocks your access. Can you try it again today and see if it still has the problem? If you have a software firewall on your machine, please turn it off to see if that makes any difference. Also please let me know the specific ip address from which your attempt fails. Thanks.

Re: Homepage unreachable with new IP-Range from Provider

Hi,

there is no firewall in use.

The new Address range that my Provider used starts with 89.54.xxx.xxx
So I always get an address like 89.54.166.54. or 89.54.184.68 and so on.
The DNS-Servers and Gateway are always:
DNS-Server: 194.97.173.124 and 194.97.173.125
Gateway: 62.104.190.38

I talk with my Provider (Freenet.de, Germany) and they told me there is a known problem with the new address range the use. Some routers don't have updated their list.

I make a new trace route today to www.worldcommunitygrid.org :

C:\>tracert www.worldcommunitygrid.org

Routenverfolgung zu www.worldcommunitygrid.org [129.33.89.133] über maximal 30 Abschnitte:

3 45 ms 42 ms 48 ms G2-0.mch2-g.mcbone.net [62.104.194.229]
4 53 ms 74 ms 50 ms lo0-0.lpz2-j.mcbone.net [62.104.191.207]
5 54 ms 56 ms 66 ms ge-2-0-0-0.hnv2-j.mcbone.net [62.104.191.192]
6 54 ms 54 ms 54 ms L0.dus1-g2.mcbone.net [62.104.191.143]
7 92 ms 57 ms 58 ms ge-6-12.car2.Dusseldorf1.Level3.net
[212.162.47.81]

8 55 ms 55 ms 54 ms ge-2-0-0.bbr2.Dusseldorf1.Level3.net
[4.68.96.23]

9 188 ms 189 ms 214 ms as-0-0.bbr2.Denver1.Level3.net [64.159.4.226]
10 205 ms 188 ms 187 ms so-9-0.hsa1.Denver1.Level3.net [4.68.113.54]
11 198 ms 192 ms 190 ms IBM-GS-NA.hsa1.Denver1.Level3.net
[209.245.20.1]

12 186 ms 187 ms 187 ms 10.15.255.6
13 10.15.255.46 meldet: Zielnetz nicht erreichbar.

As you can see, the ping goes till "10.15.255.46" and then stops.
Sometimes it stops at " ms IBM-GS-NA.hsa1.Denver1.Level3.net"

I also make a tracert from my company network:

C:\>tracert www.worldcommunitygrid.org

Routenverfolgung zu www.worldcommunitygrid.org [129.33.89.133] über maximal 30
Abschnitte:

5 62 ms 64 ms 64 ms ge4-0-0-121.gw8.ams6.alter.net [193.67.246.253]

7 64 ms 63 ms 63 ms so-1-1-0.TR2.AMS2.ALTER.NET [146.188.8.90]
8 147 ms 144 ms 163 ms so-4-0-0.IR1.DCA4.ALTER.NET [146.188.5.197]
9 146 ms 156 ms 148 ms 0.so-1-0-0.il1.dca6.alter.net [146.188.13.37]

13 261 ms 215 ms 236 ms ibm-gw3-den1-1.customer.alter.net [157.130.168.22]
14 195 ms 196 ms 217 ms 10.15.255.18
15 227 ms 262 ms 213 ms 10.15.255.42
16 * * * Zeitüberschreitung der Anforderung.
17 194 ms 198 ms 201 ms 129.33.72.5
18 199 ms 204 ms 200 ms www.worldcommunitygrid.org [129.33.89.133]

Here in my company network I have a different IP-Address:
IP-Adresse: 10.64.58.30
Standardgateway: 10.64.58.30
DNS-Server: 10.64.2.39 and 10.64.2.38

It goes a different way and it works.

Hope this Information helps.

thx

PS. Why there is this bad red smiley down in the right corner? It wasn't me!

Hi the-mof,
The angry red face in the right bottom is a command icon to report a threatening post to the staff. It is part of the forum software.

Re: Homepage unreachable with new IP-Range from Provider

The network team found a switch which was blocking this address range and it should be fixed now. Please try the connection again.

Also, thank you for pointing this out and providing the useful information which helped us diagnose it.
