Hello, a friend of mine ants to join my nickname in the WCG, he is already in thw WCG with his nickname. I know that he can join me just by reinstalluing his clients and use my username, but is there eanyway to tranfser his points into my account?

I have a question from another subject. When I was "young" and though of the grid computing I used "my" computers to crunch the "other" projects. Then I grew up and found WORLD COMMUNITY GRID which has (FOR ME) the best focus how to help humanity. So I quit BOINC and left all my crunched points left where they are. So my first question is: will be points generated via UD client merged with BOINC points? At this moment it is merged only on "UD" site (points generated via BOINC client are cumulated to points generated via UD client) but not the "other" site (UD points are not transferred to BOINC). Are you planning such as activity? The second question about merging with BOINC: I am crunching the points via BOINC client right now but I have no possibility to join to the team via BOINC client. Is it somewhere I did not look at or is just not implemented yet? The third question: What is the "roadmap" of merging with BOINC platform in general? What is planned to be done in near future and if you can say is there any plans for changing the UD client into BOINC for good? :o)

Hello slejzy,
I can't answer all your questions. BOINC points are BOINC points, we will never translate UD points into BOINC points. We do convert BOINC points earned on WCG projects into the 'rough' equivalent of UD points and add them into an inclusive WCG score. But that is a one-way street. As for a roadmap, you have to remember our goal. We want to run projects that benefit humanity. From this point of view, time spent boarding and running projects is 'good' but time spent on platform issues needs to be minimized. The attraction of BOINC is that other people are working on the platform, leaving us with more time for our projects. We are still working on issues involving BOINC Team Stats, so my position on that is 'wait and see'. Which also covers the BOINC vs UD issue. UD is a simple, easy-to-use interface for the millions of non-technical Windows users who have so much computer power to contribute. BOINC is a more complex and intimidating platform that offers a way to reach other groups (and Windows power-users). So we need some experience with costs and benefits here. mycrofth |
