Re: phases

Hello charliebear,
All the news that I have heard is in the FightAIDS@Home 19 Jan 2006 newsletter at http://fightaidsathome.scripps.edu/news/vol1.html

The NIH has a database with 200,000+ anti-protease compounds.

For Phase 1A, TSRI (Scripps) has extracted almost 1900 of these compounds, including all those that have passed clinical trials. We are docking each compound against 270 varieties of HIV protease. Actually, we are running the complete subset of almost 1900 compounds against each variety. We have now run the subset against 135 varieties of HIV protease, so we are half way through Phase 1A. Just 135 more varieties to go! There are some variable factors in the calculation process, so we run each compound-protease docking 100 times while varying these factors.

Phase 1A lets us compare our calculations against known clinical results and look at the effect of HIV variations.

Phase 1B will run all the remaining compounds in the 200,000+ database against a single 'wild' variety of HIV protease. That should take no more computation than we have already done in Phase 1A so far.

That is as far as the public road map goes right now. I expect we will hear more after people have had a chance to analyse the data and think.
