Re: Problem uploading from Win 2000 using BOINC

JamieCampbell,

Let us know if the upload goes through now. It looks like the server already had part of the file uploaded and when it attempted to load it again it was rejecting them attempt. I deleted the partial file and believe that will solve the problem.

I haven't seen this before so I'm curious to know if this is the cause.

thanks,
Kevin

Kevin,
Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.
I don't think it worked - the error message I get now is:

Re: Problem uploading from Win 2000 using BOINC

Given what Kevin found based on his post, do you have more than one result to upload? If so, you may want to try selecting only the second result and tell BOINC Manager to retry just it. If that goes thru, the whole problem may be specific to the first result and BOINC may be trying to always upload it first each time.

Re: Problem uploading from Win 2000 using BOINC

I think we may be getting close to resolving this - it turns out (on a completely separate application problem) that my work PC is un-pingable! I can ping out to other machines but no-one can successfully ping my PC.
I didn't realise that it was possible to make a PC unpingable - does anyone know how to make it pingable again?

Re: Problem uploading from Win 2000 using BOINC

Do you have 5 workunits on that machine all waiting to be uploaded?

This problem is very odd since you are able to communicate with the server and retrieve new work. It is just the upload that you are having troubles with.

The last time that I see information in the logs from your device was on Jan 18th - can you force them to try to upload the results again?

thanks,
Kevin

Probably your firewall is dropping pings. Look in the advanced firewall options for something like: ICMP: allow incoming echo requests.

Re: Problem uploading from Win 2000 using BOINC

Most of my work units have time expired - I've only got one ready to upload and it's still failing!
Every now and then I've been forcing the units to upload and they've all failed. :-(

I don't think its a firewall issue. I can't ping my PC from inside the firewalled LAN. If I disable my VPN security policy I can ping my machine (which solves the problem with the other, non-BOINC application) but I still can't upload .... aaargh!

Re: Problem uploading from Win 2000 using BOINC

Jamie,

uplinger identified an interesting issue with another user (the upload URL for one of the files was corrupted). Can you send your client_state.xml file to the support@worldcommunitygrid.org inbox and mark it attention of uplinger or knreed?

thanks,
knreed
