I have been running WCgrid and FAAH since about May. I recently did a clean reinstall of Win ME and redownloaded the agent and am again running FAAH.
However, I have noticed that the agent delays in connecting to the grid to send results and receive a new set of data. I am receiving a box saying agent could not connect, please try again. As soon as I click OK, the results are sent and a new download takes place. My fire wall is not the issue. I noticed that I now have two agents (same ID's) located in the Device Manager. I have defaulted both to the same profile. Is this the connection problem and will putting both on the same profile clear up the delay? I would like to delete the original and use only the recently added agent but apparently cannot do so. Any other considerations? |

Hi flyer122,
I would like to delete the original and use only the recently added agent but apparently cannot do so. This puzzles me. I wonder, is it possible to uninstall the WCG agent? If so, then a clean reinstall ought to clear up the problem.mycrofth |

Delete the profile from the Device Manager, not my computer.

Hello flyer122,
I think you misunderstand the Device Profiles. You start off with one profile, named 'Default'. You can then create as many named profiles as you want, each with its own name. You have to remember to 'Save' it after creating it, or it will disappear. You can go back and edit any profile (except Default, which cannot be edited or changed). Again, you have to 'Save' the changes. But none of this affects any device unless you have already set it to run a named profile. Normally, you have to go to Device Statistics and click on a device name. This brings up a page for that device only. There is a drop down menu that lets you select any named profile or Default for that device. Then Save the change. The next time your agent contacts the server to download a new work unit, it will download the new or changed profile as well. Then you can verify on your own screen that the new profile has been downloaded. The number of named profiles that you have created and stored on the website is irrelevant. mycrofth |

I have been running WCgrid and FAAH since about May. I recently did a clean reinstall of Win ME and redownloaded the agent and am again running FAAH. ... I noticed that I now have two agents (same ID's) located in the Device Manager. I have defaulted both to the same profile. Is this the connection problem and will putting both on the same profile clear up the delay? I would like to delete the original and use only the recently added agent but apparently cannot do so. Any other considerations? I think there is a little confusion going on here. Device ID's are unique to each agent. Device Names are simply descriptive names given by the user and they can be whatever you want and they are not required to be unique. Only the device ID matters. When you re-installed the agent, a new device ID was assigned, even though you probably gave it the same name. Thus, to the grid, it looks like a brand new machine. On your stats page it will list 2 devices: Your old setup which will no longer gain stats, and the new setup which will continue to accumulate points. You can't remove any devices that have returned at least 1 result. You can, however, filter it. By default it only lists devices that have returned a result within 2 weeks. As for your connection problem, is it always pausing trying to send/receive data or does it happen only occasionally? Unless your profile says to only send/receive certain hours of the day, it's not your profile. If you haven't done so already, please check out our Network FAQ: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=netconn
