I've just put Suse10 on a PC and installed the boinc software, I've registered it and it seems to be working correctly.
I have had a look at the Default Profile at My Grid/Device Manager and it gives a series of basic and advanced options. Particularly with regards to the advanced options - is it best to leave them as default or adjust them? And if so, what are the optimal settings? I note that under network usage, it has the maximum upload/download rate set at 0.0 Kbytes/sec - is this normal? Any advice would be much appreciated ![]() |

The default settings are fine unless you are on dialup or have special security / network issues.
Here is a brief explanation of BOINC Manager at http://boinc.berkeley.edu/manager.php And here is the BOINC Wiki at http://boinc-doc.net/boinc-wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page with a number of pages on 'Getting Started'. This should give you more info than you want. mycrofth |

Thanks mycrofth, I think I will leave it alone then!
One other thing - I notice the Device Name in My Grid shows as 'linux.site' - is there any way to change it to something more personal? ![]() |

One other thing - I notice the Device Name in My Grid shows as 'linux.site' - is there any way to change it to something more personal? This is the hostname of your box. Run the command 'hostname' in a shell and it should return 'linux.site'. To change this permanently you would have to change the name of your box (using YaST2) and to re-register your client at WCG. Doubt it's worth the effort. Regards, Thomas Prause |
