Hey I am sitting here in school and an idea popped up in my head. Practically every school in america has computers in the classroom. I know my school must have at least over 200 computers and I thought HEY! why not tell schools to sign up there computers idle time to the world community project. I think it would really help the schools that are interested in giving their idle time over to the world community grid if there was a section on the homepage or under get involved or something that said for schools or something along those lines. Because fro schools the kids will see it potentially get intersted and sign up at their home. Just a suggestion to potentially get 1,000s of more member to the world community program.

Hello Robinson79,
I think that is the future as well. A new generation will come to take distributed computing projects for granted the way bake sales to raise school funds and charity funds are today. We just have to concentrate on making the platform as bullet proof as possible and developing a ready supply of worthwhile distributed computer projects. mycrofth |

So would it not be safe for my school to set up the world community grid? Or is it okay. You think we should wait until a later time when the program is bullet proof to prevent any possible issues that may but hopefull won't occur?

Hello Robinson79,
It is already quite secure. Some improvement in ease of installation and in detecting and explaining problems wouldn't hurt. But it is very safe to use. It is already running at some schools. mycrofth |

Hi, Check out the Partner Page: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/viewOurPartners.do You'll see that the Austin (TX) Independent School district has decided to become a Partner. That means that they have authorized their whole school system to allow staff, faculty, and student participation in World Community Grid on school owned PCs.
If you want to, please have your shool start the partnership process from this page: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/viewBecomePartner.do Any organization can participate in World Community Grid without becoming a partner. But if they become a partner, then the World Community Grid team provides them with information to use for communicating World Community Grid to participants and also the technical team is made available to provide some assistance such as answering questions about security. |

Hi Robinson79 --
While no environment can be made totally safe when systems are connected, I assure you that the World Community Grid would probably be among the safest your schools systems could interact with. Some of the precautions that are taken is explained here. Other access that is already made by your school's systems, particularly to regular internet web sites, is much less secure. Best regards, |

Thanks for the information on how to get started. I'd like to suggest it to both my school and my employer. Are there any testimonials from current partners that we could share with the decision makers to assuage their fears?

Hello DavidHaynes,
Scroll through 'Our Partners' at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/viewOurPartners.do and click on the logo of any school that interests you. Rutgers University mentions the World Community Grid toward the bottom of the page linked to. |
