Uninstall UD before installing Boinc?

I'm going to try out Boinc for Windows on one of my machines - do I have to uninstall the UD agent first? thinking

I just collected some notes and put together a "how-to" over here. Please let me know if it works for you or if you have problems/suggestions.

Great. I have done it several times but it is always better to have another set of eyes view it critically. "Two heads are better than one" Thank You Sir.

Re: Uninstall UD before installing Boinc?

What you documented matches my experience except that I did not delete UD off my machine. I simply stopped it from running. If for any reason I need to, I can easily switch back. I did notice that my computer had no apparent problems running UD and BOINC at the same time although that may not be officially supported. From a practical viewpoint, there's no real reason to do that that I could find. When both were running, they equally split the available CPU time (as both have the same priority). I may well go back at some point in the future and delete UD altogether (I've been running BOINC only for a couple of weeks).

Re: Uninstall UD before installing Boinc?

That makes sense keithhenry. Thanks for the feedback. Also, don't forget the time may expire on the UD agent WU that is dormant on your machine.

Regards

Is there any consequent problem with this "dead WU" ? ... I too just stoped and moved to Bionc for Windows.

Excelent instructions by the way ... even for me. wink
