If you look here ( http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php ), you will see that 5.2.13 is the latest version. Click on 'version details' for more information. knreed says that he has not yet implemented this new feature:
You attach to projects using your own email address and password. Long, random 'account keys' are no longer used. It will be implemented soon. mycrofth |

knreed you say?
Is knreed the *one* admin, maybe wearing many hats, that oversees the boinc server? Reading through these posts: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=5322 http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=5378 http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=4907 http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=4909 I can tell that there's quite of bit more power out there that is not getting put to use due to semantic issues. I realize some of these are because client version is wrong, but something "under the hood" is knocking and probably just needs a small adjustment - be it a *feature* or otherwise... knreed keeps the servers running and is translating the server-side BOINC code to run with our database. I think his #1 development priority right now is programming the BOINC Results page. And he has to keep juggling the multiple projects. If he takes his eye off that, some project stops issuing work units. The server code does not handle multiple projects easily, according to one of his posts.

How have you optimised your linux ? Have you installad Linux and optimised it ? or mayby found an optimised version for computing only (I don't know if something like that exist :P but someting only with network protocols and ability to compute )? Do you have any useful links ?? I updated my kernel from the generic i386 to an i686 version to better make use of my processor's built-in features (ie P3 and P4 cpus). If you have an AMD cpu, there are optimised kernels for that as well. I got mine through the secure repositories listed in my distro install. Incidentally, I am running Ubuntu 5.10. Other than that I make sure to run the client all the time but only run the manager when I want to check on progress. I hope that helps you. ![]() Currently being moderated under false pretences |

Optimising on our poor client's side is not much of an issue since it is the application that most of the CPU time is spent in. We can be fairly certain that the application is mostly statically compiled in order to prevent compatibility issues with the local libraries. Hence, I suggest to forget about optimisations on the local infrastructure.
What might help though is to have a look at the separate distribution of the Autodock program which IIRC was kind of Open Sourcy to non-commercial bodies (yip: http://www.scripps.edu/mb/olson/doc/autodock/obtaining.html). I suggest to optimise there and to then suggest these optimisations to the upstream developers. It would of course be great if we could all see the code behind FAAH in order to submit patches and thus getting things done more smoothly on one's local hardware. This would also be very educational and would be very likely to spawn many other similar projects for other diseases. That said, I presume any research group could ask for any such a collaboration with the Olson lab today. SM |

While optimzing your kernel and various programs is a good thing, it will have very little impact on running these grid projects. SM FAAH is using AutoDock 4.0.3 as its base, with additional modifications and fixes added by Scripps and us. AutoDock itself is already used by many research organizations around the world. We look at this as very beneficial as it would make boarding future projects based on AutoDock potentially very simple. The same can be said of Rosetta, the program that is used in HPF.
