Getting more than one unit queued with BOINC

Being a Windows user up until recently, I've been using Ubuntu for a while and so I downloaded and installed BOINC, and attached it to my profile without incident.

Thing is, is there any way to queue more than one unit for processing at a time? At the moment it's doing the default thing of uploading one and downloading another.

Re: Getting more than one unit queued with BOINC

Hi

(the following based on windows boinc)

In the profile for boinc you can tell it how often to connect to server by default.

I think it is preset at 0.1 days............if you switch that to, say, 3 days, it will then send you a supply of work units.

I think you can set it to a maximum of 10 days.......which is handy for non-permanent connections........gives you loads of work to do.

Ahhhhh, I see now....I was looking for the setting within the BOINC client and not on my Device profile pages. Whoops :)

Thanks Vaio, I can now get more than one unit at a time! Woo and yay! :D

Re: Getting more than one unit queued with BOINC

Just a word of caution.

The time to compute work units can vary by up to a factor of 10. It is probably a good idea to be cautious about asking for more than 2 days of work units.

Re: Getting more than one unit queued with BOINC

Thanks for the cautionary words, I tried 10 days and then noticed the huge stream of incoming units crying

Not to worry as my machine will chop through them in time, I think however I'll back it off to something like 5 days in the future though. blushing

Please consider the other members of your Quorum.

Think how long it will be before any of them get any credit.
A 10 day queue is far too long sad

I've placed the queue at 2 days now.

Er, what's a Quorum?

Quorum = 4

So if you hog one WU for 10 days 3 people have to wait to on you.
