Hi,
Check this log: 2005-12-17 13:45:03 [World Community Grid] Reason: To report results 2005-12-17 13:45:03 [World Community Grid] Reporting 1 results 2005-12-17 13:45:08 [World Community Grid] Scheduler request to https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/boinc/wcg_cgi/fcgi succeeded 2005-12-17 20:57:33 [---] Suspending computation and network activity - running CPU benchmarks 2005-12-17 20:57:33 [World Community Grid] Pausing result eb678_40_0 (removed from memory) 2005-12-17 20:57:35 [---] Running CPU benchmarks 2005-12-17 20:57:43 [---] Failed to stop applications; aborting CPU benchmarks 2005-12-17 20:57:43 [---] Failed to stop applications; aborting CPU benchmarks 2005-12-17 20:57:44 [---] Resuming computation and network activity 2005-12-17 20:57:44 [---] request_reschedule_cpus: Resuming activities 2005-12-17 20:57:44 [---] ACTIVE_TASK_SET::check_app_exited(): pid 30880 not found 2005-12-17 20:57:44 [---] ACTIVE_TASK_SET::check_app_exited(): pid 30880 not found After these messages appeared, the client stopped doing work (ps uxa shows 0% cpu, and 0.00 load on the machine). When I restarted the client about 12 hours after the event occured, it started doing work again. It's not very cool having to monitor whether or not the client stops doing work, since I usually don't touch this box :( Here's what the client reports when starting up: 2005-12-18 14:30:08 [---] Starting BOINC client version 5.2.13 for i686-pc-linux-gnu 2005-12-18 14:30:08 [---] libcurl/7.14.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8 zlib/1.2.3 2005-12-18 14:30:08 [---] Data directory: /home/chrisl/BOINC 2005-12-18 14:30:08 [---] Processor: 1 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 1.50GHz 2005-12-18 14:30:08 [---] Memory: 502.42 MB physical, 1.87 GB virtual 2005-12-18 14:30:08 [---] Disk: 184.36 GB total, 153.04 GB free Any suggestions on what to do? Hi chrisl83,
did the client resume computation after the restart? The quoted output is missing a line similar to: ... Resuming computation for result xxxxx using rosetta version xxx I have seen similar events on a not so well equiped and very busy box. But restarting the client did always work. May be it's running out of memory. But I never found any entries in the system logs. Does any body know how the boinc client reports out of memory? Regards, Thomas Prause |

Hi, thanks for your reply,
Yes, it did resume work. This box is not very busy, and was certainly not using much memory when this happened... ![]() |
