sad Project preferences

I signed up for the HPF project and have my preferences set for that and only that. However, the WCG persists in running only the FA@H project. I have tried altering the preferences and then back again and waited for several cycles of communication of results - all in vain. Can anyone advise please?

confused Re: Project preferences

Hello David12,
What should happen is this:
Click on 'My Grid' - 'My Projects'
Only the Human Proteome Folding project should be checked. If anything else is checked, uncheck it, then click on 'Save'.

If your Project Profile has been correctly set up but you have been receiving work units from another project, then:
A) We have a problem on the server or -
B) Something went wrong on your installation. In this case, uninstall and then reinstall, being careful to check the 'Previous Member' box during the reinstallation and giving your computer a different Device Name (Add 1 or 2 to it).

Which OS are you running? Are you using the BOINC client?

Thanks for the advice, mycrofth, but I have done all the things you suggest previously and the problem persists.
Regards,

Re: Project preferences

Sigh . . .
Sounds like server-side to me. Wait it out until it gets corrected.

Re: Project preferences

David12,

It appears that you have have not returned a result since May 23, 2005 - nearly 7 months ago (see http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewMemberInfo.do?userName=David12). So I think that something odd is going on. Can you look at your agent and let us know how long the workunit has been running? Also, can you open up the task manager and let us know what process is using most of your cpu time?

thanks,
Kevin

applause Re: Project preferences

Thanks for further thoughts, knreed, and i think you may have found the source of the problem, ie me! I am not too familiar with the technical language, so please bear with me if i don't follow your advice too accurately.

Back in May, my computer packed up suddenly and it was a few weeks before I got a replacement and longer still before I again started up WCG - sorry about that. :-((

When I restarted, I somehow got a second device listed: one is 'Default' and the other 'x', even though I kept the same user name. Both were however configured to run HPF and only HPF. I guess I caused the problem at that stage.

Yesterday, I found a spot which enabled me to amalgamate the two (I can't remember where that was) and now my computer is running HPF as required. Whether it was that amalgamation, coincidence or some magic you wrought with the server, I don't know, but my device statistics a few minutes ago showed a Total Run Time of 18d 19h 30m 27s.

Under My Statistics it shows
Total Run Time (y:d:h:m:s) (Rank) 0:098:16:55:42 (#20,897)

As for the CPU time, 'WCGrid_Rosetta.exe' and 'System Idle Process' tie with usages of about 50, nothing else is remotely near those.

Are those the number you asked for, please? Is it all sorted now?

Hello David12,
Last Result Returned (UTC) 05/23/2005 08:49:44 [5,026+ hour(s) ago]
Until this changes to a recent result returned, we can't be sure.

Re: Project preferences

David,

The first time that you participated in World Community Grid, you used the member name David12 - which you are using to access the website now.

However, you have created a second member name named: David A. Wright which is the member name that the device you more recently installed is running under.

You will need to pick which member name that you want to use. If you wish to use the David12 member name then you will need to uninstall and then reinstall the agent. Make sure that you put in David12 when it asks you for your member name.

Let us know if this clears up the confusion,
Kevin

confused Re: Project preferences

Kevin,
I really am sorry for the confusion and trouble I have caused. I have done as you suggested and seem to be back in operation again running the HPF programme.
The David A. Wright name crept in unnoticed by me when my computer helpfully put it in automatically.
Again, my apologies and thanks - with fingers crossed.
David

I am having the same problem today. I was an early adopter of the grid.org project to screen for cancer. I recently switched from XP to linux and could not continue the cancer work. I picked the HPF project instead and for nearly a month, have run two computers pretty much 24/7 dedicated to the project.

I came home tonight and found I downloaded and ran several faah units on each machine. I'm dedicated 100% to the other project, until the cancer project comes online. How did I get hijacked and how can I fix it?
