Hi, I'm from the Channel Islands and would like to request that this be added to the country list, as it's affecting my profile on BOINC statistic sites, some are reporting that i'm from the UK because this project has UK selected because CI isn't an option

WCG appreciates the effort, but CI is Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), with zero members.
----------------------------------------CI is also a US Possession abbreviation for Caroline Islands, in a whole 'nother ocean. For Channel Islands, (GG)Guernsey and (JE)Jersey are standard internet country codes, http://www.visibone.com/countrycodes/ but I don't see them in the worldcommunitygrid country list. Thanks, but when i mentioned CI i was refering to the Channel Islands, as that is the notation used for postage (actual physical "snail" mail)
i'm aware of the "official" naming scheme's but as "Channel Islands" is available with all other boinc projects, someone has either modified the code, or used their own implementation if there are issues with specific countries then suggestions should be made to the boinc development team for changes, all i'm asking is that standards be maintained, the reason the islands as a whole were added as just one entry is instead of having about half a dozen islands listed individually (and there's other political issues with this too, as there are only 2 govening bodies, Bailwick of Jersey, and Bailwick of Guernsey (which covers all other islands apart from jersey)) also UK isn't a recognised "internet country code", it's correctly GB so if everything is done by standards then this should be changed but i'll repost this request in the suggestions forum |

UK, United Kingdom is Great Britain and Northern Ireland. http://www.iana.org/root-whois/uk.htm The sponsor page for my team is http://theregister.co.uk If I send a letter to somebody on the big island, either UK or GB seems to work. Boinc is fairly new at worldcommunitygrid, so they may still be getting some kinks out. I see the other message in suggestions now, but was just replying to this one. also UK isn't a recognised "internet country code It most certainly is! There are a number of standards for country names/codes, but for the UK, UK is always correct. The only times GB is appropriate is for vehicle codes, GBP and EN-GB. The UK TLD is ".uk", as expected. |
