I have been getting this msg. for the last few days, when I ty to Update WCG. Prior to this it would sometimes give me two WU's at a time. I was wondering what the problem might be. I am running 5.2.13, on a Linux box, and the same on a Windows box. The windows box is also running the AIDS program, and the Proteome_Folding program they both work fine. I did read on "My Projects" that Linux (BOINC) only allows 1 project. Is this my problem, if so I am not sure how to clear it up.
This is the text that I get each time I try to update. 2005-12-10 12:25:14 [World Community Grid] Sending scheduler request to https://secure.worldcommunitygrid .org/boinc/wcg_cgi/fcgi 2005-12-10 12:25:14 [World Community Grid] Reason: Requested by user 2005-12-10 12:25:14 [World Community Grid] Note: not requesting new work or reporting results 2005-12-10 12:25:24 [World Community Grid] Scheduler request to https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/boi nc/wcg_cgi/fcgi succeeded I have also left my dial-up connected for many hrs. to see if it would update on its own, no luck. Any Ideas. |

Are you participating in more then one BOINC project? Such as Seti@Home or climateprediction.net?
The message that you are seeing is displayed when you manually initiate a request to contact the server but the BOINC client does not want more work from World Community Grid at this time. This could be becuase you have a deadline approaching for a workunit from another project or becuase you already have multiple workunits in progress from World Community Grid and the client wants to finish those before requesting new work. Can you let us know if either of these situations applies? |

I am participating in WCG, Seti, Einstein, and LHC. Now all these (Seti is down right now) are working fine on my windows computer. The problem I am having is on my Linux box. I am using 5.2.13, there are no WU's crunching now, (haven't for several days) Seti is the only one waiting to upload, all others will not get work.
This is the latest msg. I get if I try to update. Hi carpinus,
I do not know anything about this problem. But as an experiment - - if your system is stubbornly trying to upload results to SETI and refusing to work on any other projects - - what happens if you suspend SETI? mycrofth |

you show a ping results for pinging berkeley.edu...can you show the output if you ping worldcommunitygrid.org from the linux box that is having trouble?

I tried Suspending Seti and then updating WCG, Einstein, no luck, I get the same messages.
Here is what I get when I ping WCG. peterhin@GNULinux01:~$ ping -c10 worldcommunitygrid.org PING worldcommunitygrid.org (129.33.89.133): 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 129.33.89.133: icmp_seq=0 ttl=240 time=170.0 ms 64 bytes from 129.33.89.133: icmp_seq=1 ttl=240 time=172.0 ms 64 bytes from 129.33.89.133: icmp_seq=2 ttl=240 time=150.4 ms 64 bytes from 129.33.89.133: icmp_seq=3 ttl=240 time=159.7 ms 64 bytes from 129.33.89.133: icmp_seq=4 ttl=240 time=161.0 ms 64 bytes from 129.33.89.133: icmp_seq=5 ttl=240 time=157.9 ms 64 bytes from 129.33.89.133: icmp_seq=6 ttl=240 time=160.4 ms 64 bytes from 129.33.89.133: icmp_seq=7 ttl=240 time=170.1 ms 64 bytes from 129.33.89.133: icmp_seq=8 ttl=240 time=147.8 ms 64 bytes from 129.33.89.133: icmp_seq=9 ttl=240 time=179.8 ms --- worldcommunitygrid.org ping statistics --- 10 packets transmitted, 10 packets received, 0% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max = 147.8/162.9/179.8 ms peterhin@GNULinux01:~$ |

My problem appears to be fixed. Once I was able to upload my Seti wu's I could then get WCG, sofar to download.
Can someone please explain to me what was happening here. It seems that it was being held up by Seti, as I haven't done anything to BOINC in the mean time. It appears that you were on the right track "mycrofth" suspending wasn't enough though, I had to get all data out before I could start downloading. |

Hi carpinus,
This has been showing up on other forums. There is something about the algorithm BOINC uses that can build up 'long-term debt' if one of the projects goes down. Eventually it interferes with other projects. Some SETI contributors have been running into it lately. But your situation was different from the posts I read because you were trying to return results to SETI. I expect that all this is in the bug list for BOINC and will soon be changed. Until then, the general advice seems to be to suspend any project that stops working, just for safety. |
