What a surprise crunching here !

Trying to crunch here with a Boinc client on Windows, I've got a few WUs on my PCs.

Up here everything seems fine. My surprise was that the WUs name is rosetta. Furthermore, I'm currently crunching rosetta 4.21 units coming from here, and rosetta 4.80 units from the rosetta-Boinc project ...

Anyone can explain me what happens ?

Thanks

Re: What a surprise crunching here !

Hello bronco,
Yes, we are starting out with biology projects. We have been using a version of Rosetta since 2004 for the Human Proteome Folding project (HPF) and have recently started running AutoDock 4.0 for FightAIDS@Home (FAAH). Soon we will be running a newer version of Rosetta for a new project (HPF2) which will fold some selected proteins using the high-resolution method (more computationally intensive than the method used for HPF). Meanwhile, Rosetta@home, run out of Baker Lab in the University of Washington, is improving that method in the Rosetta program. So there is a lot of cooperation and change going on.

Re: What a surprise crunching here !

Does it mean than the 2 projects are different projects using the same "science" ?

Re: What a surprise crunching here !

Rosetta@home is actually developing the Rosetta program. It takes a lot of computer time to test any change in the algorithm, and all they have at Baker Lab is a 500 node server farm (poor, poor pitiful Baker Lab). The Rosetta program is used in many universities and research projects. For that matter, Baker Lab intends to use the cluster of computers in Rosetta@home for research projects eventually.

We intend to use Rosetta in the upcoming HPF2 project (more information to be announced).
