Preferences

It seems that my preferences aren't sticking. I've created a profile for "home", but the default button for this profile will not remain checked. My messages tab shows this:

No separate prefs for Default; using your defaults? Huh?

Re: Preferences

Hi Professor Ray,
I am unfamiliar with the way BOINC handles preferences. When you created the profile 'home' on the web site, did you then go back and assign 'home' to your computer (device) on the web site?
Added: If you click on 'My Grid' - 'Device Manager' does it show your computer has been assigned the 'home' profile?

confused Re: Preferences

I think what happened was that the profile got created after everything was downloaded. The BOINC config update didn't seem to be taking. I detatched from the project, deleted all project associated XML files, deleted the project folder and then re-attached to the project. Seems like the "home" profile is being recognized now.

However, there appears to be a problems with either the web-site, or my browser, in that the none of the profiles "default" or "home" display the "default" box as being checked. It shows an empty box with a black border. If I manually check it, the black border goes away, and a check mark appears in the box. When I go back into the profile, it appears as an empty box, with a black border around it.

confused Re: Preferences

Hello Professor Ray,
I am starting to locate this in the Unofficial Wiki.
Using your default project prefs: http://boinc-doc.net/boinc-wiki/index.php?tit...our_default_project_prefs

Project prefs: no separate prefs for '(venue)'; using your defaults: http://boinc-doc.net/boinc-wiki/index.php?tit...27%3B_using_your_defaults

At least this gets into the general area of explaining the cryptic messages. I do not understand the overall picture yet.

Re: Preferences

Just to be clear, as I indicated previously, the problem has been resolved client-side; as is evident in the following:

12/6/05 4:02:54 AM|Einstein@Home|Restarting result w1_0763.5__0763.8_0.1_T12_S4hD_0 using einstein version 479
12/6/05 4:02:54 AM|SETI@home|Pausing result 19mr05ab.28067.16369.1015912.239_1 (removed from memory)
12/6/05 4:02:54 AM|World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request to https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/boinc/wcg_cgi/fcgi
12/6/05 4:02:54 AM|World Community Grid|Reason: Requested by user
12/6/05 4:02:54 AM|World Community Grid|Note: not requesting new work or reporting results
12/6/05 4:02:59 AM||request_reschedule_cpus: process exited
12/6/05 4:03:05 AM|World Community Grid|Scheduler request to https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/boinc/wcg_cgi/fcgi succeeded
12/6/05 4:03:05 AM|World Community Grid|General preferences have been updated
12/6/05 4:03:05 AM||General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modified 2005-12-05 20:44:22)
12/6/05 4:03:05 AM||General prefs: using separate prefs for home

However, an issue still exists with respect to the profiles as displayed on the web-site (as indicated in my 1:52:30 message). Furthermore, the "computer summary" page, as intimated in your second link to the Wiki, is nowhere to be found at the WCG site.

Re: Preferences

Professor Ray,

Thanks for noting the check box issue. The preference is being saved with the profile, but it isn't being loaded when the page is brought up again. We'll have this fixed with the next update to the website (we're hoping within the month).

Thanks again!
