Hi
I just joined the WCG like 3days ago earlier today my SMPS went bad and i had to pull it out and go replace it thought it was jus a routine problem, but i was kinda suspicious coz my computer case was heatin up since yesterday didnt think it was a problem till my SMPS went bad earlier today and i had just replaced it 2 months ago. I read some posts on the forum and read this post bout cpu overheatin i checked my task manager and was shocked to see it runnin at 100% and WGC was usin 90 at that time i searched 4 help on google finnally found the post bout CPU throttle Ih ave lowered wcg to 70 and the cpu usage has lowered lil bit but im still concerned and might lower it even further. My comp is like my baby and i take gd care of her i clean the fans and all periodically Im not ready to comprimise its health for anythin im happy and honoured to help the cause but if its gonna affect my comp i might have to uinstall it unfortunately unless i find some solution |

Aren't you being a bit premature with your worry about heat? If you are keeping your system dust free, there should be no problem. I would suggest that you check to see what temperature you are actually running at before you raise the concern. You might try Motherboard Monitor mentioned here. I have been running two systems flat out at 100% since the project started a year ago and have had no problems. Those that have reported problems tend to have systems that have not been kept dust free, laptops or home built systems which were not designed around good air flow. |

Hello ALEX GOURIA,
There are some temperature diagnostics on the 'Useful Utilities' thread at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2490 In particular, see if Motherboard Monitor works on your system. Your manufacturer ought to have a diagnostic on the support website. And there is SpeedFan and Throttle Watch. Remember, except for a few laptops, computers are supposed to be designed to run at 100%, so check for dust buildup blocking fans or vents or insulating heat sinks. mycrofth |

Basically if your CPU is over heating by being at 100% then you have innsufficient cooling. I have an SMP system as well as a Dual Core. It shouldn't be a problem to run them at 100%, if you're unable to do that you simply need to increase cooling. It's not just a WCG problem, innsufficient cooling is NOT a good thing for your CPU's period. I can run my X2 4800+ (oc'd to just under 2.8ghz) at 100% all day long at about 48-50c (with liquid) lol and that's with very crappy case cooling fans (I should probably fix that, and clean it out :-D)

As other ppl said, a pc is designed to run 100%...it run 100% when it run other thing like videogames ecc too...so no problem, simply control the temperature

Be interesting to find out a few specs from Alex, certainly CPU type, and what the actual temps are. I also like to keep an eye on the HDD temps on the machines that are inside the house.

Well im usin a home assembled pc
its a Pentium 4 2.80ghz with 736 mb of usable ram,i got 40gb hdd. Yea i plan on cleanin up the fans and stuff today and also considerin drillin holes and installin an extra fan i got like 2 fans one on the cpu heat sink and one at back end of case. Neways ive lowered the cpu to 65% now know its a waste kinda coz system idle process will use reminin cpu process but i wanna be on the safe side. |

Home assembled usually leads to one major problem, thermal paist on the CPU/Heatsink. What brand/type of thermal paist did you use and did you make sure to have a full covering and THIN layer? In overclocked systems and home made systems it tends to be the make or break in terms of cooling that CPU down. Also you should get an intake fan too for the front of the case (usually where they go) that way you keep a steady stream of air over your parts, in the front, out the back :) |

I would say that your CPU should run around 60*C at max load although it should be OK at any temp below 70*C.
I agree with Chase, look at thermal paste and an intake fan is always a good idea for PC's that operate in the home where ambient temps are around 25*C. |
