they recently finished their project. looks like they had worked on several diseases. this is all i could find: "We will continue to work with existing partners as well as seek additional collaborations." who would these partners and others be?
----------------------------------------are they looking for drug companies or.... ??? http://www.find-a-drug.org.uk/frame.html Who funds Find-a-Drug? At present, Find-a-Drug is funded by Treweren Consultants (the developers of the THINK software). In the future, we expect some revenue from partners who will fund some of the research and royalties from discoveries. Who benefits from the projects? Find-a-Drug operates on a not for profit basis. This means that all revenues (including any royalties from the sales of any resulting drugs) in excess of costs will be donated to research. Who controls what happens to the results? When there is an external partner, the partner is responsible for deciding which molecules to make and test. [Edit 6 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 3, 2005 11:15:45 PM] |

I'm still running FAD at the moment, but was looking to come here when it shuts down (16 Dec). FAD has basically crunched a load of Cancer/Malaria/HIV/CJD & Proteome queries and is then looking to sell that info onto drug companies. The results are actually sold as I understand, so the drug comapnies can then patent the info (it's hoped this will be more tempting to the drug industry).
With ~250 queries done this is most of the ones of interest to the industry in general at the moment, and there showed little interest in any other queries so the project is shutting down for the time being to try and generate interest in the results that have already been processed. I believe the project coordinator has caught the eye of a couple companies interested in the Proteome project results so far, but I don't have the specifics. |

ok. maybe like this?
find-a-drug makes partner agreement with drug company. find-a-drug gets an agreed % of profit, the drug company keeps the rest. find-a-drug's share all goes back to research, while the drug company money is profit. does that sound right? if so the questions would be: what % does find-a-drug get, and will the drug company pass any savings on to us because we did research for them. |

Hi halfcard,
I think I heard of a lot of business models like this back in 1997. It took me about 8 months to get out of the stock market. Since drug development costs are mostly in the clinical phase, the real point is to create drug trials that otherwise would not have been tried. The real point of FAD is health, not $$$. And a point in FAD's favor is that they organized this as a non-profit venture. But getting a pharmaceutical company to pay for their results is . . . probably slow and difficult. mycrofth |
