Re: Uh oh... had to re-register a UD agent...

Hi coolstream,
My understanding is that you can name a computer Den and another computer Office. You can then reinstall / reregister each 100 times, getting a new Device ID each time. You will then have 200 unique devices (registered computers) in your device profile list on the server until the unused ones age off after 2 weeks. 100 named Den and 100 named Office, so you can keep track of which real computer is involved without memorizing a long Device ID number assigned with each installation / registration.

Again, thanks for the clarification, mycrofth. Going by this interpretation, which I also believe to be true, the naming rules are the same as at grid.org. I must admit, I didn't really expect there to be any difference.

There is however, something strange that I noted this morning... The device which I reinstalled to Machine2 (previously Machine1) has started a new WU but is not running the profile I set for it. It would appear that it has dropped to default settings and is at present running the HIV project (by preference I set the lower spec machines to run only the Folding projects).

I will keep an eye on this machine and see if it can run the HIV project comfortably (and if not, it should drop to the Folding project anyway). If it continues to go for HIV and returns broken results, I'll keep you informed). wink

Re: Uh oh... had to re-register a UD agent...

Chowbow

Once an agent tries and cannot find a members ID on the machine (at the start of a run), he assumes that the machine is "new" to the WCG and asks the same questions as it did when the machine was first installed. Once that question is asked, then it will wait for an answer, as long as it takes..be that a few seconds or indefinitely.

I have run out of ideas on this re-registration issue. It would seem to me that it must have been transient. While it could have been a transient problem at WCG it could also have been one in the long data transmission sequence or in your machine. Like someone else said, with tens of thousands of these events happening every day, if it were a systemic problem at WCG, there would be a deluge of problems.

Anyone else have a suggestion? confused
