Saving a Project on a USBKey

I'm not sure if this is possible, but I was hoping I would be able the data of a project in progress to my USBKey.

I'm hoping to put some school computers to work during my spare, but I can't finish a project in the slightly-longer-than-an-hour duration that is a period.

Also, my school uses DeepFreeze, which, among other things, purges the hard drives of the computers to what they were when originally imaged. I have to intstall the Windows Agent each time I want to use it, and when I turn the computer off, all the data will be gone.

Thus, I'm wondering if saving the data folders to my usbkey would be enough to be able to restart a project the next day, on a fresh install of the Windows Agent.

Thanks

Re: Saving a Project on a USBKey

I haven't tried running the agent from a usb drive yet, but don't see why it wouldn't work.
I have moved the entire WCG folder from one machine to another but have only run it on the HD.... Sounds like experiment time.....

Going to go play... back in a few.. biggrin

[Edit] O.K., copied the WCG folder from my main system to USB drive.
Plugged the lil sucker into the notebook, and started UD.exe...
Picked up at the same %completed as when I shut it down on the main rig.
So, yes WCG agent will run from USB drive.

biggrin

Recommend right click/exit on the agent before removing the device to ensure progress is saved properly.

Re: Saving a Project on a USBKey

One last thought ...

You may run into a firewall if a unit is completed while you are at school that will prevent the agent from being able to send/recieve work.

Only thing I can say for that is you may have to wait till you get home to let it pull the transfer.

Re: Saving a Project on a USBKey

Thanks for testing that out for me SpaceCat.

I'm able to download my projects while at school, so I assume I would also be able to upload them. However, if that fails, I will, as you suggested, try to upload from home. I'll have to grab another computer to do this from, however, since I don't use windows on my PC. No biggie.

Thanks again!
