confused No protein display; no error message

I have two cpu's working on the project. One (the newest and fastest) completes projects just fine but never shows a display and never shows an error message. When the screen saver is active, all I see is "World Community Grid" floating around on the screen. The other cpu shows the protein. Was ist los, por favor? Merci.

Re: No protein display; no error message

Hello Gordonlh,
That sounds familiar. A long time ago something was wrong on one member's computer, and they got a screen saver that only showed the WCG icon floating around, since the application was not running to supply a display. I cannot remember the details. Does your newest computer have DEP enabled, blocking UD.exe? Does Task Monitor show everything running?

Could you describe your system and the security software on it? If you check Device Statistics in 'My Grid' on the website, are both computers returning results?

- "My Grid" indicates results have been regularly returned, including today (11/30).

- Don't know about DEP (how does one know?), tho serv pack 2 is running.

- Norton is only security other than router. Windows Firewall is off. Norton says WCG is 'permitted' in all directions.

Re: No protein display; no error message

Hello Gordonlh,
I want to be sure that both computers are returning results normally. If you select 'My Grid', then 'Device Manager' and then select 'Device Statistics', you should see a page giving the 'Statistics last updated' time in UTC. Below that you should see both of your computers with a 'Last Result Returned' time (before the statistics update time) and a total 'Results Returned' number.

How does the computer with the screen saver problem compare with the other computer?

Looking through the website, I see that I have not been pointing you to posts that Viktors has made in this area in 'Known Issues'. So here they are:
