I would suspect the new project does have a lot to do with the rate of growth in the membership. To the average person who doesn't have a background in say biology and hasn't read any supporting information it is a lot more obvious what the benefits of the AIDs project are compared to the HPF project.
Also you will have a reasonable number of people who have either directly or indirectly been affected by aids thus giving them motivation to join a cause like this. That's not say I don't think the HPF is worthwile, in my personal opinion I think the long term impact of unravelling protein folding will be far more beneficial than targetting any one specific disease could be, to a lay person though this is not readily apparent. I just hope any members who have joined because of an interest in a particular project, like aids, will stay around and help out with other projects even if/when the aids one wraps up. |

Given that tomorrow is World AIDS Day, I wonder if we will get a big jump in membership. Not that there has been any coverage on the World AIDS Day website of the WCG nor has a link to the WCG been added to their links page - I have e-mailed them.
Still I have been pushing the WCG to all and sundry at work as something they can contribute from home on their own PCs to mark World AIDS Day. Hopefully a few will take up the idea, after all I have had to pay for the privalege of wearing jeans on Jeans for Genes, and pink on Breast Cancer Day. |

Hi GEORGE DOMINIC
----------------------------------------The percentages can be reverse engineered from these 2 links http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewProject.do?projectShortName=faah http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewProject.do?projectShortName=proteome yesterday it was a 69/31 split FAAH/HPF Which seem's fair to me, at the moment, as we have already donated 20,746 years to the HPF project which is coming to it's completion of phase 1. What is amazing is the 769 years of crunching donated already to FAAH ![]() Dave ![]() |
