what if my CPU stops returning results?

I have replaced my old laptop containing WCG with a new one, and have loaded WCG onto that one. However, I'm sure my old laptop was in the midst of calculations. Since it's possible that machine may never be turned on again, or may have the OS cleared, WCG would never receive those results. At what point does WCG stop waiting and reassign that work unit to another CPU? And what happens if that old machine DOES return to the Grid?

Re: what if my CPU stops returning results?

Several questions there dchak smile
The WCG has redundancy built in. WCG sends them out till they get back 4 results that are the same. So if one does not come back, it is not a problem. I believe the time limit is set at 2 weeks processor time and 3 weeks "wall clock" time for a agents results to be returned. If they are returned after one of those times expires, you get credit for them but they are not used.

All old machines are welcome back even if they have strayed from the fold. smile smile

Re: what if my CPU stops returning results?

There is also this crazy idea of stopping wcg, copying the wcg directory out completely, installing wcg back into the new computer, but not signing up, pasting the wcg directory back into the directory, and restarting it, having the result continue where it left off... I've done it several times, so it works like a charm... biggrin
