Hi all
I am hanging in there, now that I know I am not alone with the long task times. |

Yes some are large ... I have one running one one of the machines that I extrapolate will take 40+ hours. This project seems to have some design difficulties. But the project team (other than the tech's) seem to have little interest. Notice how othen the "Member's News" had been updated <LOL>

So what??? My comp ain't big nor particularly fast, but it's tough and persistent--and we're HANGIN' IN THERE! AGHH-H-H!!! Just lost it at about 60% and 2½ days -- and had another 4MB WU download! So I guess all I can do now on that one is wait a day or two to see if all that work has any effect on my score and CPU time... |

Hey everyone,
true everyone should chill nothing too serious. But it is interesting that there seems to a general trend of things taking longer, there probably is some reason. If you have a look at the global statistics you'll notice that total cpu time has been increasing for last few days but results returned has started dropping alot. That is, results are dropping while cpu time is increasing. It'd be interesting to know what about the numbers being crunched has changed. G'day from Sydney |

The difference between WU completion times is solely due to the length and composition of the peptide data sent to the computer.
For example: my 2nd device is a good old Athlon 1.3Ghz and its first WU amassed 62 hours to completion and consisted of approximately 300 amino acids, with about score update per second. My current WU has only taken 11 hours to reach 98 per cent - with less than 150 amino acid residues, most of which are green and approx 3 score updates per second. Its pretty much hit and miss as each randomly allocated dataset contains varying complexity. |

The work unit I'm processing is taking a lot longer than the previous ones as well. After 45 hours, I'm at 57%. It has to be the complexity of the file my computer's working on, since I have a 2.0 Ghz AMD Anthlon, 768 MB RAM, 5 Gigs allocated for storage, and DSL. Granted, my computer isn't the best out there, but it's still pretty darn strong (including an ATI Radeon 9200 video card to take stress off the CPU).
----------------------------------------We must keep in mind that in projects like these, patience is a virtue. Also consider that the longer it takes your computer to finish a work unit, the more points it's worth. It'll be like getting a big, fat paycheck when it's finally complete. After a midnight CST update, I had NO addition to either my score or my CPU time. Guess I'm a glutton for punishment, but think I'll wait out today to see if any changes come about before going back to Folding@home or whatever. |

Hi All
My task has completed the picture below was taken just before it completed. After completion it uploaded a 3.1 meg file to the net and downloaded a new 1.1 meg file. The new task has been running for 20mins and is already 7% complete. I am all 's now that it's complete. I'll have to see what I get next. |
