I am currently at 20% and for a total of 12 hrs which means it will take some 60 hrs to complete this 5th task. Each task takes longer and longer. I question is my system slowing down. I have put the system on snooze then closed down my computer and restarted it. It simply continued where it left off and just as slow. Other programs seem to be working fine when I open them.
My system is an hp pavilion a420n which is an AMD 3000+ (2.16Ghz) with 1Gig of PC2700 memory, I have allocated 6 gigs of hard drive space and I have DSL. For the most part the task is the only thing running. My last task completed in about 24 hours, this projected 60 hrs seems to be a bit much. Are others having 60 hour task or is something broke and I need to ditch this effort? |

It's normal for the tasks to vary in length. And it's also normal for them to take some time. Your client isn't broken; just leave it to do its work!

I have a Pentium 3 which is a bit slower than most machines these days. My current task is at 10% after 19 hours, meaning that it will take about 190 hours to complete - that's 8 days! Can anyone top that?

I've had some tasks that completed is as little as 6 hours (and actively using less than 30 Megs of RAM) and my latest was above 50 hours, and actively used over 80 M of RAM.
Clearly, some tasks are harder and take much more time to complete than others. If it's possible to know in advance the size of a task, they should be allocated carefully to give the short / modest memory requirement ones to slow / low RAM machines, and the longer ones to larger machines. The latest task I got (and those larger than it) would clearly be way too big for a machine with "only" 128Mo RAM. (mine is a mid range AMD 2500XP (1.8Ghz) / 512Mo). My 0.02 ... |

From how much is processed so far and the time it took, mines gonna take 100 hours on my PIII 1Ghz.. 1% in 1 hour. Its a bit too long don't you think?

Time to buy a new computer -- or to relax and wait.

Am also on my 5th - - it's been running for 17 hours and is at 1.2%. At this rate, I'll probably return the result sometime around Xmas!
My average CPU time to process a WU is 1.5 days, though my #4 took 2 days 6 hours CPU - so it appears the WUs may be getting progressively harder. I suppose it's just a case of 'hang on in there' |

I'm on my third task and the time needed for each workunit is also increasing. Ok, you can't really do statistics with 3 tasks but from what other users reported this could by the normal behaviour!?
----------------------------------------I also think they should decrease the size of workunits: its ok for me with a P4 3,0 GHz and 512 M RAM but what about PI with 133 MHz and 128 MB RAM? |

Running 24/7, I completed my first WU in less than a day, second in a day and a half. Now I'm 53% done on my third at 52 hours--I figure it will complete in 4 days plus a couple of hours.
----------------------------------------So what??? My comp ain't big nor particularly fast, but it's tough and persistent--and we're HANGIN' IN THERE! [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 21, 2004 7:38:59 PM] |
